Hate to rub it for all those who are complaining of slow MAAF connection speeds but I too was promised 'up to 8Mbps' and for some strange reason have been sitting at a constant 12 Mbps for over two months now!

....I've probably got everyone else's bandwidth!!

I don't think so! How are you measuring this "constant 12 Mbps"?

It sounds more like the speed of your wireless connection!

Just moved from BT (£25.99 pm) to MAAF (14.99pm) Only downside is a 4Gb per month cap but that shouldn't be a problem.

    AND now:

Maybe you have some form of digital dyslexia, Doctor. Could you speak to a colleague at your health centre?

    1) Your cap won't be 4gb - the minimum cap is 5.

    AND

    2) Your latest speed claim is just not possible.

    1) yeah I realised that it was a 5Gb cap not a 4Gb one a soon as I typed that Sherlock.

    2) My speed claim is based on the following:

go into control panel/Network connections/right click on my local area connection icon/status/general and speed is given as 12Mbps.

(please don't tell me this is something entirely different and that I've been bogusly boasting about my super-fast internet connection speed to anyone who will listen?)

Do a speedtest here and then cut and paste the contents of the Forum Link Box in your reply, to share your result.

  • Hi Dr Wu,

Just for reference - you can run a speed test with us that becomes part of your account history. This is really handy for us to have in case you ever have any problems with your speed!

To run a speed test, sign in to "My Account" from our homepage. Then when you're logged in click on the "Internet" tab near the top. When the page refreshes, find the "Broadband speed test" area and click on the blue text that says "test your broadband speed".

    Good luck!

    Kind regards,
    Samara

ps. Post your speed when you run the test, we're all really curious to see what you're getting!

That's a really useful site espresso, nice graphics too!

Hopefully this will be the link to the result: 57870952.png

Sadly you were (both) right, my download speed is only about 2.3Mbps which raises the question, what on earth is the 12Mbps I have been proudly looking at in my network connections folder for the past couple of months?

I'm using the combined voyager 2091 router/modem set up.

The computer that I've been referring to does have the modem plugged directly into the BT phone line but then we have a second computer connected wirelessly (is that an actual word?) to the modem/router, so no it's not wireless.

OK, well I'm not sure why it is displaying 12Mbps on yours. If I look at the speed of my LAN conection from the PC to the router, it displays 100Mbps, which is the maximum data rate for that connection.

Anyway, you now know your true speed but it is likely to vary, depending on the time of day etc. That site keeps a record of your previous tests.
