I think it is worth mentioning the statistics on comping.

If you enter draw style competitions (where there is always 1 winner drawn at random) and there are always 10,000 competitors then statistically you need to have entered almost 7,000 competitions to have had a 50/50 chance of winning something.

    At 50 entries a day that is ~140 days or 4 to 5 months....

Last year I did 50-100 a week for the full year, so say 2500 - 5200 for the year

walked a way with two cameras, £50 of John Lewis vouchers, and cook book

so you can do less, and be lucky..
    Total - £340.00

    wins : £7.50 Virgin Vouchers, Nikon Coolpixs S550 x 2, I-Tunes Vouchers, £5 Esprit Voucher, Big Snap 2 (x2), Alaska Seafood book

There are lies, damn lies and statistics ;)

Ive found it pretty easy to enter 50 comps a day with this forum and roboforms though. Probably an hour or so work a day.
Total Value of wins in 2009: £900 appox. 2010: £730
Wins 2011: Carlisle Utd Tickets (twice!), Baby Food Hamper, Straighteners, Chugginton Toy

Hello - another newbie here! I wandered over from the movie tickets thread, after I won a comp the other day (then had it taken off me, as I was a backup winner, and the first winner decided he COULD take the prize - grr!) and found my comping love re-ignited.
By total coincidence, the mailout this week had the comping guide in it, so now I suppose my chances will nosedive dramatically, as I have loads of extra competition!
Won so far this year: Public Enemies Premiere tix, Wrestler DVD.:rotfl:

great discussion! i've personally been comping on and off for about 10 years, and my only win (apart from a couple very small things!) was a holiday to the bahamas...not bad!
I never enter to win things i don't want just for the sake of it, and i never expect to win.
i finally managed to find one comp to post that was not a repeat :)
    Smoke free since 30/01/13 :j
  • Hi, i'm pretty new to this and i'm trying to download roboform, but all its asking me to do is save it as a binary file which is then nowhere to be found, it's not letting me actually download it. Can anyone help please?

Shezza you'll get a better response if you ask in the correct place(the comps discussion sticky) instead of bumping this old thread:)

I disagree that comping services aren't worth paying for, most internet sites just list 'affiliate comps' where they just want your e-mail address to pass onto other comapnies, and the next thing you know your in box is jammed full of rubbish.

True compers try and enter 'real competitions' the ones run by compaines promoting themseleves. magazines like Simply Prizes only list competitions like this, they won't pass your e-mail address onto anyone else or list competitions that do, this has to be worth paying for. And they are members of the Insitutue of Sales Promotion, so they have to be doing things right.

    Good luck and keep wininning

And as you've got a vested interest you would say that, wouldn't you?

I'm assuming you are the same Dave Gibson:

    Dave Gibson
    Managing Director
    Oxfordshire Press

Who surprisingly publish Simply Prizes

Hey I've just read over the article and want to start comping! Is it only the links in the forum that people use here or are there places to find more?

Also is it necessary to provide a different email to your normal one? Do you tend to get bombarded with spam?

I'm currently in Spain studying for the year so have plenty of time for this sort of thing lol!! :D
