Comping For Cash Article Discussion

I love comping. It's like gambling but without the layout (except for all that time you put in). It's a rush checking your email each day, waiting for your comping mobile to ring, waiting eagerly for the postie in the mornings.
I work full time so I spend the early hours of the evenings with my family and then put in a couple of hours a night every night. I enter about 50 comps a day and have had some nice wins - more than £3k in prizes last year and about £800 worth so far this year. I mainly enter big comps for prizes I'd love to win as I haven't time to enter more than that.
It's a wonderful hobby that occasionally brings wonderful results.
One thing that would really help though is a quick one click button on the main comps forum to subscribe without email or unsubscribe so that you haven't got to go into each thread individually to subscribe so that you know from the main list that you've done that one. Perhaps even an 'entered' button - that way, I wouldn't be subscribed to 1000s of threads, which I would imagine slows the forums down. To have all these people subscribed to 1000s of threads can't be good surely but it's the only way of seeing at a glance whether you've entered or not on the main list. Could we try and come up with something a little better/faster that doesn't clog up the forums too much, even if it's a subscription only view that we need to pay for.11th Heaven prizes Number 103

Can I say thank you to Princess Pixiedust - your post has given me a bit of heart about the forum.
I'm new here. I have read all the guides (though its a lot to take in!) I always say Thanks (because I was brought up nicely and I have read the guides) and I have posted the few competitions I have managed to find before more experienced posters.
I have been quite dismayed by the tone of this thread. I am still comping here, but it was not just for the links that I came here, I was already into comping, I had been enjoying the community, generosity and knowledge I thought was here - not feeling the love at the moment.0 -
Hi all, Im new and made sure I read all the sticky's with etiquette etc before I even started - I think there are some very dedictaed people who make sure that the masses get some good comping opportunities and since I started I have always said THANKU - I think the article just glamourized what for some people is a genuine hobby and really I think if you look at it realistically, those who come on expecting to win millions and win often will soon drop off when they realise that comping takes dedication and to a degree a good deal of etiquette!
I will not be entering in any comps for which I have no interest in the prize, it just takes away from those who would genuinly want to win that prize and I'd like to join in with posting comps - I just need to flammin find one that you guys haven't got up here - you're amazing! Last night I found one and I rushed to get online to get it on and..... IT WAS ON!
I'm not gonna give up though I WILL FIND at least one to post so I can give a little back

That's a fabby post LadyLuk and just about sums up comping. It's lovely to give some back although the efficiency of finding the comps on here is just amazing, which is why it's such a brilliant site for competition entering, as well because of the answer sharing within the threads and the help that everyone gives each other. There's one person on the 'I won, I won, I won' forum who's been selected as the £20,000 Cream Egg Twisted super detective - I can't wait to see how much the forum rally round to help him/her, it'll be great fun to watch. MSE Forum power in action :T
P.S. Get on Google first thing in the morning, do an advanced search for 'win' and 'competition' and select 'within last 24 hours' in the date/time section. You'll find some new comps to post that way but you gotta be fast11th Heaven prizes Number 103

I love comping, and thanks to the help of everyone on this site I have won a few items. My question is - when I reply I want to quote what someone has said I press the quote button, and it never looks like the quotes that others post. Everyone else has a nice neat box around the quote.
Could someone tell me how to post a neat quote when replying.
Thanks

You should just be able to hit the quote button and then scroll to underneath the other person's post (underneath the [/QUOTE] box at the end) in the main box Julie. Try it to this one to have a go.11th Heaven prizes Number 103

Hi,
I have a question:
I followed the tips about putting the forum in order so that they are in date order, that way you can enter the ones that are ending soon straight away and work my way through to those ending last, but, I thought it had worked but it shows posts with the date 1/07 then 1/08 then 1/09, how do I do the ones ending in june first?
Thanks

I think it is worth mentioning the statistics on comping.
If you enter draw style competitions (where there is always 1 winner drawn at random) and there are always 10,000 competitors then statistically you need to have entered almost 7,000 competitions to have had a 50/50 chance of winning something.
At 50 entries a day that is ~140 days or 4 to 5 months....:eek:0
