Best way to complain about Tesco

Hi All

I can see from reading this forum that many people are having problems complaining about Tesco. However, the complaint I have seems to be slightly more worrying and I just wandered the best way to complain and try for compensation.
I purchased a bag of mixed veg. from them about two weeks ago, stuck it in the freezer and opened it up tonight while cooking dinner for the kids. I emptied the contents of the bag into the saucepan only to find a 3" piece of sharp wood in with the vegetables!
After eating a take-away (I didn't trust the veg after that!) I came on here and gained the number of Tesco Online Customer Service. This number relates to the online shopping side of things but I spoke to nice man who gave me the customer complaints number for purchases from stores (who apparently close at 6pm!) He also said that they would make me take the bag back to store with the wood. I'm not happy to do this as I don't simply want a refund and a new bag of veg. I want some form of compensation as this is completely unacceptable and very dangerous. I'm tempted to ring the complaints department tommorrow and say I can't get back to the store (why should I spend petrol on travelling 20 miles back to the store) only for them to quickly take the evidence from me.

Any help or advice is very much appreciated.
Kindest Regards
Tim

  • I hope not! I don't want vouchers for a shop I don't intend to shop at again!! See, I've even got my lines fired up ready!

Probably came off the crate the vegetables where stored in
  • Timmy Compensation is to return someone to the position they would have been in had the issue not occurred.

You have no right to anything other than a refund.

People like you are leeches. Its unfortunate, but you can be assured tesco will record it, investigaate and recall if necessary.

Maybe they should cover the travel costs too, to be fair?

You are only entitled to compensation in regard to loss suffered. (This is a legal premise BTW) So your loss would be cost of the veg basically. Even if you went to court this would be the yardstick against which your claim was judged. You haven't been harmed and have suffered no other losses.
You either return the bag to Tesco and get vouchers (as has been mentioned) or send it to Trading Standards as unfit. Then you won't get anything but it will be looked into.
    Your choice.
Personally I use the 'real harm' idea - if it was something that would cause real harm/injury I would complain to trading standards (ie mouldy/maggot ridden food). If not I just return the offending item, some or all of the packaging and sit back and wait...

I have just learned a new abbreviation BTW - IANAL

Why doesnt he post it instead. So he can get a refund and 37p for a stamp.

    Problem solved.
