If I were you both I'd be asking for my money back, the speed you get is dire. But only 2G at home, no normal broadband , no freeview etc etc I could go on but won't. It really is fine.
Normally I'd say the only way to do itis try it though that's hard if it's just for a hol. Maybe contact someone where you're staying and see what sort of mobile phone signal they get would be best.
that's really unusual but at least you have the mbb! it could be that the phone's antenna is not strong enough to pick up 3g indoors whereas the dongle is iyswim. the dongle can pick up 3g and then switch to hsdpa onece you open a web page so maybe that affects itIt is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt

No, I've obviously mis-explained. The dongle only picks up 2G, it says so on the Orange Everywhere connection gizmo. I've never received 3g on the mbb or phone at home, even wandering round the garden holding it up in the air, and I'm exactly 1000 ft above sealevel - it only gets other stuff when I'm out and about. There's no antenna anywhere for miles and miles and miles. And conversations with various people at Orange have informed me it's never going to get better, not even Edge.
But as I said, 2g is adequate and equals dialup. So your so-called 3g reception really needs looking at, it's massively worse than my 2G.
None of this is any help to the original poster and macman's posting has sent me for my pudding!

ah, i understand. your quite lucky that you are happy with the dial up speed. it's just that in most cases people dont get anything reasonable on 2g. enjoy your pudding while you sit and wait for a page to load!!:pIt is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt

Takes no time at all, and am buying my lottery ticket on another tab at the same time.

I've spoken to customer services a hundred times about the issue. No amount of setting changes have ever affected my throughput. It's just a crap signal.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

Hi, looking for a little help before I order the PAYG broadband, is there a website where you can put in postcode to see who has best coverage? Any good deals?
Do I need to purchase anything else apart fron the dongle?Jan Grocery challenge

It won't tell you what the reception is at a particular location though-the postcode only gives a general idea. If there is a big building or hill in the way then you won't get a decent 3G signal.
The best way to check is to borrow a SIM/phone on the same network and try it at your location. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Can't really borrow sim etc as want it for a holiday location. I know we had problems with our mobile signals so may be best to choose a different network and see if we are any luckier with that!Jan Grocery challenge
