Mobile broadband help please

We are going on hols for a couple of weeks in summer and son is desperate to take his laptop. The place we are staying at you have problems getting a mobile phone signal and there is no landline phone.
Would be be possible to get mobile broadband there? As I would only want this facility for a month at the most does anyone know the best company to go with if this is poss? Can anyone give me an idea of cost of usage of this as well as I dont want to face a big bill at end of hols for it.

Yeah should be fine, Providing its within the UK. They have PAYG Broadband now where all you pay for is the dongle as top it up much like a PAYG phone when ya want to use it. Most network providers offer this service now.

That sounds ideal as can monitor what he spends then, any offers of recommendations who to go with or who provides cheapest dongle.

you need to check 3g coverage in the area he's using it as without at least 3g coverage it will be useless. If you let me know where you are going i'll do a quick coverage check for you. prefrably a postcode

Notice 02 are charging £7.50 per GB, anyone have any idea how long you can surf net, messenger, retrieve/send emails for per GB?

about 40 hrs roughley, depending on the content. but again, if there is no 3g coverage it won't work. if your phones don't work there then the mbb wont either.

checked everyone but o2 and there is only vodafone coverage there, it's a real blackspot!! vodafone have a payg dongle that he can get on payg and it's £15 i believe for a gig of usage, he should be ok with that!

As i have no idea how to use these at all am i right in thinking once he has used his £15 he wont be able to use anymore until i top it up again. Presume we top up by phone as you would a mobile.

I beg to differ re 3G. I can't get much of a mobile signal at home, max is only ever 4bars 2G but I am using mobile broadband right here right now in my kitchen. Peak District. At the moment I'm getting around 2-3 bars 2G mobile signal and downloads are fine - a bit slow but around the same as dialup via the housephone. If he just needs it for emails and surfing it would be fine. Not for gaming or large downloads unless you leave it on all night. It's fine for these forums too!!It's an orange dongle. It's on contract so I don't know about payg, but this might help in terms of signal.

The other thing is that .if you go out and about sightseeing he can always download important emails etc while in a town or whereever and read them later.
