Keep on learning, I am at Uni doing a part-time CCS course and loving every minute of it .I left school at 14 with a badge for growing a nastertium from the London Flower Lovers League and spent the next 44 years wishing that I had been given the oportunity to stay on at school I took my first GCSE at 58 and got an 'A' then came History,Law& Maths and communications in C&G. over the following years
I had two years off because of illness then last year back I went to get started again. I have just passed my first year, and feel on top of the world.I think that going back into education has actually helped me no end coping with the death of my beloved husband, and a nasty bout of cancer . I can't wait to start my second year at Uni this September .I share a class with all ages and the youngsters are brilliant and make you feel so welcome. Every year I try to learn a new skill of sorts. I have done computer classes to get me up and running with my machine, and craft classes for relaxation .I knit, read, learnt to swim at 60 ,learned how to use a digital camera and am always on the look out for new experiences .
Two years ago just before diagnosis my oldest friend and I did a 'Thelma & Louise' around the north eastern seaboard of the U.S.A. touring by car, and we had a whale of a time.Every one we met were so intrigued about they two little old English ladies and why we wanted to see the 'real America' not just the touristy bits.
I have taken one grandson to Disneyland Paris as a treat for passing his 11+ and promised my granddaught that when and if she gets a place at Uni in three years time I will take her to New York for a short holiday.I always look forward to every day and as my eldest much loved grandson who is wise beyond his years says Nanny age is just a number and you'll never be old even when you get to a 100.Bless him
Five weeks today I am off on my travels again, this time with my youngest daughter .It is her 40th bithday in December, and I have arranged for us to go to Amsterdam for three days to see her favourite band U2.We went there a couple of years ago when Robbie Williams was playing and had a ball. I haven't got time to grow old and sit in the corner ,life is just too busy and I hope it stays that way .All my affairs are in order and my will is made. When I do finally shuffle off, I have told the kids I want them to have a big party to celebrate my life as I have done.I can't think of a better way to be remembered0 -
Lovely and very encouraging post Jackie :T Use it or lose it, I say.
I recently read that older people who think they're old and behave in a way they think older people should, age more quickly......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Keep reading about subjects that interest you. Limit TV, especially during the day. Keep in touch with friends and family. Declutter your material things. Walk as much as possible. Don't get a perm. Don't wear blouses or cardigans. Switch the radio on to music stations as well as talking ones. Take care of yourself." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

My philosophy to the drawing near of my 'old age':
WARNING
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens . . .
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.0 -
That poem by Jenny Joseph makes a lot of people smile.
When I grow old I'm considering gardening a lot, keeping cats, and shooting anyone who comes on my land......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
