government benefits for childless couples

having worked in the tax credits since it started, having to put up with all the flack associated with it and joining MSE as seeing all the people moaning about thier ctc/wtc problems i thought it was about time us childless, working, lowish paid couples had a benefit to help us.
we own our own home paying a large mortgage £600pm, pay full council tax, run 2 cars (needed for commuting as we work different shifts and in opposite directions), own a pet, have HP on the cars, A small loan... just your average working couple... and we get F**K all help from any benefits.
so i am starting a poll, please complete it and post replies if you wish.

If you never made use of NHS or S.S benefits, some form of cashback would be nice

Not sure what benefits you think would be appropriate for your situation Fatbloke but I used to work for the Dept of Employment giving out giros for more money a week than I got per month to some people. I also had to put up with a lot of rudeness and swearing from some of them if they didn't get what they wanted and that was over 20 years ago when bad language was considered shocking in public.
My solution was to move out into a different industry and use my people skills in a more lucrative way so I didn't feel I was being taken advantage of. I didn't benefit from the Tax credit system either , my children are both at uni and I am paying fees etc with no help from anyone.
Edited to add Not voted in the poll because none of the options reflect my opinion....0 -
if you are both working you don't need benefit. Children arn't able to work. That poll is so bias it sucks.Barclaycard 3800

it is our choice to not have kids but looking at the benefits others have received by dropping sprogs left right and centre it makes me wonder why i work at all.
i think it is about time TB gets to grips and gives people like us some sort of reward for
A: not clogging up the streets with ASBO Laden kids
B: thankfully we are healthy so do not drain the NHS
c: just getting on with our lives, working hard, paying taxes and not getting anything back, other than a overladen, underfunded public service blighted by the people we are bound to serve.fatblokexl:EasterBun:0 -
Okay shall we not have kids then whos going to pay our pensions? Certainly the amount we pay during our working life doesnt come any where close to supporting our pensions unless you wealthy.
If anything it will get worse, ageing population, less people having kids or having them older.
You can get benefits if you work on a low income or not working a all. The reason we get help if you have a family, assuming you on a very modest income, is that having children is expensive and unless we have some fiancial assistance and encouraged to have children, then I am afraid the country will grind to a halt.0 -
I havn't voted because I don't actually agree with any of those statements.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Oh my,
I am spechless!I too am getting on with my life ,working hard and I certainly didn't "drop sprogs left right and centre".
In fact I have got 3 lovely children who were recently bereaved of their father .A much loved man and my 3 girls are not a waste of space but ,his tribute to society .
I don't get benefits for "dropping" my children but ,because we worked hard and mu husband was killed in a very nasty way .I and my children didn't ask for that to happen.
Please consider yourself lucky that you are able to choose the life you have .I and my children didn't !0 -
Sorry to hear that montycat, I can't imagine for a minute the hell you been through, but I am sure of one thing, he left a legacy ie your kids and you still have such wonderful memories. Best of luck

I agree with the above.
I and DH have 4 daughters and we would be much better off if we could keep some of our own money rather than paying for useless governmental computer systems and politicians perks.
Two of my daughters are studying medical sciences, one is employed and one is only 12 years old.
None of them are a waste of space and we have never claimed anything from the government.
I have no problems with benefits going to people who need them and would rather pay for benefits than an immoral war!"This site is addictive!"

Tax credits are an incentive for people to work fat bloke ,otherwise their would be a lot more peple claiming full housing costs ,council tax etc whilst on benefits.
According to you only the wealthy should have children then??
What a silly biased poll.

Well the benefit I get from choosing not to have kids is that my life is mine - that's enough for me. Frankly no amount of money could pay me back for the life I'd have raising kids. I'd still choose to be childfree if I were a millionaire. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0
