that was 7 years ago now.

In those 7 years it has changed my life considerably.

So does that mean you no longer suffer from panic attacks?

To the OP, if your Benefits have been stopped and you are struggling financially, all you can do is try to find some sort of work that you CAN do.

How about e-baying, or cleaning for someone as another poster has suggested, or maybe childminding if you are the sort of person that likes that? All of which can be done at home.

I do sympathise, my husband suffers from anxiety and depression (and is still awaiting the outcome of his medical) - there is no way he could return to an 'outside' job either.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

It may well be condescending but it's a darn sight more likely to be successful than drugs or some namby-pampy soft team indulgently (if not condescendingly) stroking their hand and saying 'there, there, how are you feeling today?'

Have you ever suffered from a mental health issue???

If not then can I suggest you keep comments like that to yourself, yes when you're healthy it's easy to see these things but when you're ill (and it is an illness) you can't do it, what you're suggesting is not far off saying just pull yourself together no matter how useful you think the suggestion is.

Bottom line is no one wants to suffer from anxiety/depression etc if there was a magic bullet to make you feel better do yuo not think GPs would tell you to do it??

What is it with this site :(

I have found this a fasinating thread,

To the OP, I know the stress of having your benefits can just add to your problem (mine have been stopped too) Start by appealing against the decision. Try to get get your self a little part time job to start, if you have problems getting out, try doing some ironing at home or maybe some dog walking (you can take the dogs where no one else goes, if you can drive).

I had a breakdown a few years ago and the company doctor i saw told me I had been depressed for years and sholdn't have taken on the job I was doing. Since then I have always been self employed, that way if you have a bad day and want to hide from the world you can. I currently have Heart failure and a life expectancy of max 5 years if I am lucky. During that time I will get slowely worse. But rather than give up I am starting a support group at my local hospital (the last one closed as the chap running it died). I should be able to do this a few hours a week, but it will give me a purpose.

I know its hard but you have to have a positive out look. Try doing 1 little positive thing per day.
Yesterday I drove into town and met a friend for coffee (1st time I have been into town in a month) It takes me a very long time to walk anywhere and I worry about people behind me all the time, pushing and tutting, but yesterday was my doing something day and I did it.
IF I CAN YOU CAN I promise :A
I used to be me !! what happened
  • The genius of depression and anxiety is that it knocks you down and then, by its very nature, convinces you that you can't get back up again. No other illness does that and that's why people who haven't experienced it don't understand. You need to be strong to overcome it yet it saps you of any strength you have. It's a daily, hourly, minute by minute struggle and is exhausting. And there's no light at the end of the tunnel because even when you've overcome it, it's another struggle to stay that way. You can spend weeks teetering on the edge, doing everything you can to avoid falling into the black pit. Sometimes it will work. Sometimes it won't. Sometimes you fall over for no reason, when you were least expecting it. It is a constant lifetime battle, even when you are winning.
