Been getting calls since Friday from 0207 345 1299. goes dead when I answer so I called back from a landline and it appears I've been entered into a competiton with "free choice" to win an iphone, Audi A3 and something else.

just needed to confirm my mobile number as the draw was about to close.

I told them they've got my mobile because they've called me on it so I don't need to confirm it and to give me a call when I've won.
Every day's a learning day
  • Just a heads up...
My granny was recently victim of a "you have won a holiday" scam. They did 2 particularly underhand things:

    1. Introduced themselves as "your bank" and said the prize was because she had not been overdrawn for over 10 years

    2. On investigation it turned out this company target people aged over 75, and persuade them to hand over bank details by saying they could give the holiday to their grandchildren.

As with all the others, you actually buy very expensive time share type deals, no flights or anything else included.

How do these people sleep at night??? Please warn any elderly friends/relatives!

The truth is that a HUGE minority of these posts are spam and scams.

I have a filter set up on my mailbox to filter the words commonly used "congratulations", "you're a winner", and many more, to automatically get rejected by the server and bounced back as "undelivered", and boy in the 2 or 3 years since setting it up, I have received around 5 spam emails.

Thank god my email inbox is clean!

I have had many winning emails with the subject of congratulations, you have won, winner or competition including one when I won £5,000. So not the best words to block if you enter online competitions.

    AVOID any competition from
    CBeebies Fan Clubs" <noreply@cbeebiesfanclubs.co.uk>
info (at) abneyandtealclub . com .
    This was received via email.

They have run 3 competitions with high value prizes ipad, nexus7 and a wii console and sports/party package.

The idea is the first person to find the picture of the prize or in the inital competition olympic rings is the winner.

They wish you to search the unofficial sites of Abney and Teal, Woolly and Tig , Mr Bloom, Tree fu tom, cloudbabies and mr tumble.

I found the competition to find the wii . It had run for 4 days before they "helped" you out by making it obvious where they had hidden it on these very small sites. Looking into the page information and page sources prior to them "making the image of the Wii bigger" they had not updated the Woolly and Tig site and in particular "the books page" since 28th July.
Then in between in the process of making it bigger at 12 midday and when they emailed to state they had a winner at 20.55 the "winners name" was announced at 10 pm last night, the page was modified at 20.17 hours. This had not been modified previously since 28th july then modified a mere 40 minutes prior to the "winner" finding the very large picture of a Wii . "
Four of us had searched that page prior to the announcement and you could not scroll past the bottom box on the page then when they announced the winner and where to find it -suddenly you could!
I had searched the web, :cool:and a couple of twitter people had doubts about the nexus competition being to generate traffic to the site.
I have reported this to the ipm.org.uk

WOW well impressed with Edwin Mutton at the ipm. He sent a reply to my initial complaint at 06.58 on a Saturday! He has had several complaints re this competition and he is investigating.

We have also reported them, taken screen shots and also found out at what time the pages were modified to put the winning pictures up in the first place - we monitored the wii and nexus, same thing for both - always less than a couple of hours before the competition ended!! big scam. also reported to the bbc, sure cbeebies wont like their name and their programs used in a fraud like this.
