I received a call last night telling me I had won a free celeb make over in London for a competition I entered in Feb. The girl went into quite a lot of detail about the prize... and then asked for a £50 security deposit incase I missed my appointment, at this point alarm bells started to ring so I asked her to email me the details see below:
Dear Stefeni Stefenicura,
Congratulations!! You have been selected for a luxurious pampering treatment with a full makeover.
The day will start by with you having a personal consultation with some refreshments and to discuss your desired new look. Your makeup will be applied by one of our top London makeup artists, hair will be dryed style to perfection and your photographs will be captured by our leading team of photographers.
You will end your day by a luxury night out and leaving like a star......
I then recieved a call this morning asking if I would like to book in my appointment I told the girl that I would not be going ahead as I did not think it was ligit the girl tried to assure me but when she realised I was not interested in going ahead she said " Bit of advice dont bother entering into competitions."
Maybe I am wrong and I had won this but any prize where you have to leave a deposit does not sound right to me!0 -
Stefstar read my previous post dated 20.2.12. If you really want a makeover, and are willing to pay £50 a photo (quite a lot of hardselling to get you to buy lots of photos), you may get get 1 photo free! You will not get your £50 deposit back as this will be used against the photos you buy. Take into account any travel expenses, hotel etc. It would probable be cheaper to go to your local photographers and get a couple of photos taken. At the end of the day it your decision it will cost money but is it something you would like to experience? A prize win shouldn't cost you anything otherwise it is not a prize.

Just posted this in consumer rights forum before seeing this one, to warn you and if anyone has any advice I though I'd post here as well
I was contacted late Thursday to say I had won a competition with a photography studio for a makeover and photo shoot, being quite please I didn't think when they asked me for a deposit that would be refundable upon my completion of the makeover and shoot and gave my card details. After having had chance to think, I decided as I wouldn't be buying and photos and it would cost me to travel that I didn't want to accept the 'prize' upon ringing I was told I couldn't cancel and the only way to get my money back would be to attend the charade. They have also charged me three deposits when I never confirmed how many people I would bring and gave me a different appointment than agreed. I tried claiming the distance selling regulations but they are claiming that as a leisure service they are exempt. Anybody got any ideas what I can do?
I got exactly the same phone call just before Christmas so it looks like it was going aroundThoughts become things0 -

I have found their website, but have emailed and emailed to no avail. Blue Splat Ltd Easter Hamper Giveaway ended 04/04
http://www.facebook.com/bluesplat

Now I am not a witchhunter and don't normally check back on winners and have the attitude c'est la vie and keep plugging on?
But I just happened to visit their site again and I believe this comp was a total sham/fixed and got so annoyed i had to post.
They went to great pains to show us photographs of the random generator they used to select the winner and the spread sheet with the names.
"so, using a random number generator, we have selected the lucky number... 46
CONGRATULATIONS Holly Milne

"You have won our Easter Hamper of goodies!
Please contact us by direct message or email to claim your prize and arrange delivery!
..."
Well the company is based in Northern Ireland and it just so happens that Holly Milne is as well ? In fact lives so close she could collect the prize in person and pose for a photo with her 'prize' in front of the company logo? As shown on their FB page.
Holly Milne - Facebook profile! sparse to say the least and she didn't even share the comp post!

I suggest that MSE'rs boycott this companys promotions.0 -
Hi All,
I've just received an e-mail (In my spam folder) from Net Offers saying I'm a possible winner of shopping vouchers. It's asking me to click on a link to confirm my postcode? Has anyone heard of this company? I'm pretty sure it's spam. Any advice would be great.
Thanks
