well, my logic says, that they wouldnt ask you if you really want it, if you had won that much money, would they? lol
seems well dodgy!0 -
Has anyone won anything from Misco? Are they legit? I received a wem from them telling me I won a 22inch LED TV. I remember during December doing an Advent ( I think it was with Misco) where they asked you to make a Wish List. I put 6 items down, TV, Computer, and electrical gadgets. The 3 smaller items seemed ok but the 3 larger items suddenly appeared and it said add to basket. I quickly unsubscribed. Since then I did 2 more competitions with Misco (E 31/12/11 & 31/1/12) you only had to give your name and email address. There was a prize of a TV but it was a 40 inch one. They sent me the wem on 13/1/12 and attached another email saying please subscribe (it showed items under the Categories I had picked as a Wish List). I have to the 3/2/12 to send my address. My worry is if I send my address will I get a load of items I have not ordered. Another email arrived today saying are you saying goodbye already. This time the email said you will be entered for a Computer Competition. Do you think this is a scam?

Just posted this in consumer rights forum before seeing this one, to warn you and if anyone has any advice I though I'd post here as well
I was contacted late Thursday to say I had won a competition with a photography studio for a makeover and photo shoot, being quite please I didn't think when they asked me for a deposit that would be refundable upon my completion of the makeover and shoot and gave my card details. After having had chance to think, I decided as I wouldn't be buying and photos and it would cost me to travel that I didn't want to accept the 'prize' upon ringing I was told I couldn't cancel and the only way to get my money back would be to attend the charade. They have also charged me three deposits when I never confirmed how many people I would bring and gave me a different appointment than agreed. I tried claiming the distance selling regulations but they are claiming that as a leisure service they are exempt. Anybody got any ideas what I can do?
Feeling like a right chump, looking at the mo that I will have to go up there if I'm to stand any chance of getting my £149 back.....I know I'm an idiot, reckon they pray on harrassed mothers who look like they could do with a bit of pampering :mad:0 -
I don't have any advice i'm afraid, but I was wondering if you would have more response if you posted in the comps discussion thread, or in Iwon, Iwon, Iwon. Not sure how many people read this thread.
Failing that, try contacting the citizens advice or similar.0 -

If you paid by Credit Card you may be able to claim it back through your Credit Card Company. If you had to pay a deposit this is not a prize but a Marketing scam. There is a "cooling off period" which I think is 14 days if you can try and use that. Threaten to report them to the Office of Fair Trading.
There seems to be a lot of scams going at the moment which is very offputting.
Hope you get this sorted out to your satisfaction. Don't let them away with it.

I entered a competition posted on here on gocitygirl websitefor a makeover. i have received a response today today to say I have won amakeover and to email. i emailed blissstudio.co.uk. on gocitygirl it says 30 pound deposit to be refunded when I attend makeover and it also says 4-6 outfits provided for me for the shoot. on blissstudio site it says can take up to 30 days for depositto be refunded and that the 4-6 outfits you have to take. Is this a scam or legit? just conflicting information.

hulahoop09 regards your makeover being a scam or legit. I can tell you what happens at these makeovers and you can decide what you want to do then. About 2 years ago Ideal World - Shopping Channel were selling Pampering/Makeover Packages for £40 (I think this was for 2 people). Sounded lovely and the price included 1 "free" photo or CD. As I had always fancied having a makeover I bought one for my daughter and I. Trying to get a suitable date was a nightmare, we also had to send a deposit which was refundable (they say because they have to employ a makeover artist for that day they need the money incase you do not turn up). This deposit is then used on the day to put against all the photos you will buy, they do a hardsell to get you to take more than the "free" photo. I live in N Ireland and went to Edinburgh to get our makeover, staying in Ayr for the weekend. Unfortunately on the plane over to Scotland something happened to me on the plane (pressure in the cabin) and late on the Friday night my left eye started bleeding. I looked a right "picture" travelling to Edinburgh on the Saturday, they did offer to postpone my makeover to a later date but as I had paid some much on the flight, hotel, travel etc I said go ahead and do my daughters and it didn't matter about mine. They took the photos and airbrushed mine. We did end up buying more photos than what we intended. With all that happened we even forgot to get a Mother and Daughter photo together.
If you do go be prepared to buy loads of photos, if this is what you want then go for it. I think we paid approx. £50 a photo!.

The problem with giving out our phone numbers in comp entries is we can become targets for scammers in general. My latest call was worrying tonight as I have relatives who have just gone abroad.
I received a crackly call from someone who sounded like an old man saying, "Hello, hello, can you hear me? Can you hear me? The line then went dead. 1471 revealed I'd been rung from 0447049210237. I know no one with that number and resisted the temptation to phone back before checking the caller's words on the internet. It seems it is a scam designed to get us to dial 1471 then dial back only to be charged at a very high rate.
Thanks for the warning I only have had a text so far but wa able to stop them. There are a lot of scams going around some with indian callers saying you have a virus on you pc and all they want is remote access and payment People need to beware of these scams I did get my dvd as mentioned in another post.0
