If a village hall or a school want to run a raffle, they have to jump through hoops, there are so many rules. So HOW can this be happening? Why is it not illegal? What, if anything, is being done about it? Surely it's a consumer issue? Facebook are guilty of ignoring so many dreadful things, and in doing so, are actively encouraging them. This may not be the worst, by a long way, but it's yet another.
All I've said applies to Twitter as well.
The absolute worst part of all, is that FB and Twitter are condoning these competitions but are saying people can't share posts of the competitions? So why don't they ban the competitions????
So they are either a scam, or at best, some are legit, but to enter, we need to like and share and we're not allowed to share! ergo, we can't enter ! So why are we listing Facebook and Twitter comps when we are effectively not allowed to enter them?
I can't begin to tell you how frustrated I am.

As long as the raffles are free then village halls/schools do not have to jump through hoops, it is because they charge that they have various regulations to comply with - FB/TW is free.

It is not illegal to like/share or even against FB rules to do so - a company is not supposed to ask you to share as a requirement to enter but they can say something like "a share would be nice" and even if it is an entry requirement the person running the competition is breaking FB rules not the person entering it.

WRM mails are prolific but that's what they do, promotion. They would seem to be a legit outfit, no? Does anyone on here enter their competitions and has anyone won? Is there any feedback from compers own experiences with them?

sorry I pressed quick reply to a post about WRM expecting this to be linked to it in some way. Now I can't find the post I replied to.

I hope that folk will respond anyway as this is a standalone question.

Thanks, that helps and is a useful site to be aware of generally. This was intended for Snakepilsen. I pressed quick reply to the comment and expected the two to tie up.

God I hate loathe and detest the structure of forums. Any forum. Great thing to bring like minded people together to help one another but forums seem to be a full time job to fathom out. I needed some advice but I'll be too old to know or care what's going on by the time I work out how best to get the answers.
  • Does anyone have any experience of these?

Product testing everything from Dyson hoovers to Butlin's holidays to Pandora bracelets.

I have had a series of emails from WRM offering the opportunity to product test all sorts in return for "Keeping 2 the item.

I know WRM are a marketing agent but my question is has anyone any experience of this product testing??

Is it real? What does it involve? otherwise what sort of scam is it?

    Thanks in advance

    Just ignore these e-mails.
  • Just ignore these e-mails.

I discovered Product testing on another part of the forum so was able to get information about people's experiences from there - Which was useful, and what I had been looking for.

I posted under competitions because WRM also promote competitions and the question had as much to do with WRM and their potential for scams as anything else. I didn't realise there was an area dedicated to product testing.

I got a text at the weekend saying I'd signed up to Juicywin and it was going to cost me £4.50 a week. Had to send a text back saying "Stop" ... who knows how much that cost me :/

    Hi 1/2asixpence,

You are best just entering the competitions you find here on the site.

There is a comping guide, which is a long read, but very helpful. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1014121

This is the first time I've seen the "farming" terminology. I gather it means the obvious. Companies posting competitions based on participants "Liking" their page and sharing.

It's a mistake to think that all Facebook "Like and Share" competitions are scams. What we are talking about are ones that say something which is obviously BS, such as:
We are giving away 2 BMW 435i on 30th July
    or
Alright, so we have these Nikon cameras left in stock but can't sell them because everyone buys the latest models... (Nikon D7100, Nikon D810 etc.)
    or
We have 271 iPads that we cant sell because the packaging has been opened, so we have decided to give them all away.
It is completely obvious to most rational people that these are not genuine offers, yet still they have thousands of people liking their page and sharing the offer. When they have a large enough number of "Likes" the offers strangely disappear, and then the page is put up for sale.

So most Like and Share Facebook comps are fine, although technically they are not supposed to happen.
Thanks to all who post constructively.

Just seen a post from Asda on Facebook:

WARNING: Please don't respond to any Facebook messages suggesting we're giving away free £500 vouchers - this is nothing to do with us and may be an attempt to capture your personal information. Please warn your friends.
