I've just done a search for Liz Kane on LinkedIn and her credentials seem to pan out - and she is based in Plymouth with Illuminas. Surely a scammer wouldn't go into such detail.....Things may be looking up!0

Letter looks genuine to me :T:T"If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together... there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart... I'll always be with you. "

I started entering them in October and as time wore on, the prizes grew evermore grand, complete childrens bedroom furniture sets, rings etc and I started to have my doubts. As the end of the month came there were no posted winners and quite a few angry comments on the subject posted by others who entered.
When I looked a bit further there was a distinct lack of contact info on both the facebook page and associated web ordering page. I've stopped doing their comps but was annoyed I spent time bothering to enter something that probably was just a scam. I've kept my eye on the page and the same thing happened at the end of November. I messaged the page and asked for a list of winners but received no reply. I have also reported it to facebook but the page is still up advertising lots of comps for the end of December. I noticed one comment from someone that said that the prize listed was made by a firm that had gone out of business several years before.
I reported them to FB.
Another poster had said about doing it and her comment was deleted.
I posted about possibly reporting to ASA/IPM and my comment was deleted.
The winning notification post we both commented on has now been locked to further comments.
I think this site needs to be put on the banned list.Thank you to everyone who posts on the competitions boards. You all rock!0 -
I reported them to FB.
I think this site needs to be put on the banned list.
If you think this should be added to the banned list you need to contact VelvetGlove and explain the problem. She relies on people letting her know about dodgy companies.0 -

makes me sad
What makes me sad is that so many people are daft enough to believe the rubbish that some people put on Facebook, then actually Like and share these pages. Examples that have come up recently in my Facebook feed:

Yep, agreed - those two are classic examples of Facebook like-farming :wall:0 -

So true Roger. TBH, I never knew about Facebook 'like-farming' until I joined MSE compers forum (although I've always been very dubious/suspicious of things that look 'too good to be true') so consider myself to be enlightened about these sorts of scams.
If I ever see one of my FB 'friends' sharing one of these 'farming' sites (in fact it's happened with 5 different friends in the past 10 months) I now make it my business to 'enlighten' them too. They might not always appreciate it (after all, no-one wants to feel they've been made to look stupid ) but the way I look at it, I'd much rather alert them to the con, and give them all the info about 'FB like-farming' than let these sites continue to accumulate 'likes/shares' in such an unscrupulous manner.=^._.^= You will always be lucky if you know how to make friends with strange cats =^._.^=0 -
Hi all. This is my first post and I find forums generally so confusing that I avoid them. I've recently been doing more competitions, previously I have only done maybe one a month. consequently I am coming up against so much stuff that's alien to me and I am spending so much time trying to get to the bottom of things so I decided to come on here and see if you guys can save me some time and confusion. I find it very difficult to find the info i need on forums so i shall endeavor to post my questions clearly and under separate, clearly headed posts so that hopefully other people can also benefit.
This is the first time I've seen the "farming" terminology. I gather it means the obvious. Companies posting competitions based on participants "Liking" their page and sharing. OK well I can see the reasoning behind it although it's a bit shallow, but it's looking like the majority are actually scams? I don't see how they can get away with that - And on such a big scale. Both with huge prizes never coming to fruition and with SO many companies running the same scams.
If a village hall or a school want to run a raffle, they have to jump through hoops, there are so many rules. So HOW can this be happening? Why is it not illegal? What, if anything, is being done about it? Surely it's a consumer issue? Facebook are guilty of ignoring so many dreadful things, and in doing so, are actively encouraging them. This may not be the worst, by a long way, but it's yet another.
All I've said applies to Twitter as well.
The absolute worst part of all, is that FB and Twitter are condoning these competitions but are saying people can't share posts of the competitions? So why don't they ban the competitions????
So they are either a scam, or at best, some are legit, but to enter, we need to like and share and we're not allowed to share! ergo, we can't enter ! So why are we listing Facebook and Twitter comps when we are effectively not allowed to enter them?
I can't begin to tell you how frustrated I am.0 -
