Can anyone give me a good reason why I should switch to Waitrose.

On mysupermarket Ocado are invariably 100% more expensive for us on our basics-dominated Sainsbugs order . It always gives us a bit of a laugh when we look at the Ocado price.

Are you for real????? I quite often go shopping at Waitrose, with my 6 year old son. Who, is sometimes a little monster, but for the most part, well behaved. I dont think I have ever screamed like a fishwife at him in a shop.

    Quite a condescending, sweeping remark I think.

Waitrose tends to have better quality produce, with an emphasis on ethically sourced foods. They have a reputation for quality and they actually export own label products to other supermarkets in other countries such as Hong Kong! It's funny browsing the shelves of Park 'n' Shop, Taste and Wellcome to see Waitrose products at 3 times the price of the same goods in the U.K. They really are seen as a premium brand abroad.

I've been to Waitrose and there isn't a difference in quality to most other places. Factories that produce goods for them (say a chicken pie for example) just produce lots of that one item, and give it different packaging for different shops. You could go to one supermarket and pay £3 for your chicken pie, or go to a cheap one and pay £1.20 for it and it'd be exactly the same.

Are you having a laugh!!! Not that i would buy a chicken pie, but the fresh meat is better than other supermarkets, the aisles are wider and the food is of a higher quality and more well presented. At A*** the fish looks as it has been thrown on whilst the fish at Waitrose is well presented and the staff are knowledable.

Another good thing about Waitrose is that the aisles are less cluttered and i find that that i am less stressed and agitated!!

I would frankly be prepared to spend extra money on traveling to a supermarket where the food is of better quality and where the offers are not based on sugar loaded food!

    That's quite incorrect.
Like saying SuperdooperMarket X's 25p a loaf bread is the same as Waitrose 99p loaf, absolutely not!
I worked for a firm that did supermarket own brands and the difference is vast.
Shabbier quality product ends up in soups, cheap pies and the like for the cheaper chains.
Higher quality (taste wise and presentation wise) product ends up going to the likes of M&S and Waitrose.
Part of QC'ing these products was testing for certain enzymes that had a spoiling effect on the product.
For instance older stuff with advanced enzyme development would go squishy and have a pongy fragrance to it. Still edible but not what our pampered palates would buy.

I have to agree with kazd when I have compared prices on mysupermarket there is usually around £30 difference in price between Tesco and Ocado, sometimes even more, then I discovered that they don't deliver here anyway so it was irrelevant. Also I think you find good and badly behaved people in all supermarkets, the supermarket itself is not really an indication of who will be there, although the time of day you shop might make a huge difference. I remember back when I first shopped in Sainsbury's and thought how nice it was compared to Tesco and Asda, now it's just as full of rude and badly behaved people as any other supermarket. Maybe one day I will give Waitrose a try, but for now I have no idea where to even find one! :D

I have found Waitrose deliver really works for us. Delivery is now free, and the customer service is excellent. They used to send £10 off a £50 spend voucher if you didn't use them for a while, but I don't know if they will be so generous with the vouchers now they are offering the free delivery.

In some cases they will double your money back if there is a problem with something.

The food is definitely a better quality, and they are getting much better at doing offers, especially on things like cleaning products and toiletries. Good brands too!

I spend a lot less with Waitrose than I did with Tesco's as I now mealplan very carefully and buy only what we need (plus allowing the odd treat). With Tesco's I think I got sucked in by the offers too easily, and ended up wasting alot of food.

With substitutions they charge you the lower amount if they've picked something more expensive - I often end up with better joints of meat for the price of the smaller cheaper one I had chosen.

Give them a go, it's nice to have something different for a change, and you'll feel posh when they bring it to your door in all the different coloured bags already sorted out into freezer/fridge/cupboard etc :D

Its missing out on the points though, I have been saving for ages.

So stick with Tesco then? Waitrose is never going to be as cheap as Tesco and you are saving points for a holiday which you don't seem to want to stop doing.

I love Ocado and shop online whenever I can find a £10 off £60 spend or less.

Personally, I find their products last longer, are fresher and quality far better than the rest of the supermarkets. Their CS is perfect and any problems, they refund immediately!

I generally do 1 order every 3-4 weeks and combined with their offers and a discount code will spend approx £75 inc delivery, but that will include all meat, tinned items, storecupboard items and freezer stuff. I then do top ups weekly for fridge, fruit and veg etc.

Ocado have started doing their essential range which I think is excellent value for money. There is no difference in my spends when I can get a voucher and utilise their offers, but there is a difference in quality!

There are 3 of us and we spend approx £200 a month on food & cleaning stuff. I do mealplan though. We eat very well and have a varied diet.

All Sainsburys' fresh meat is British IIRC (even their basics meat). They also only use British meat in their own-label pies, soups, party food and ready meals.

Well this isn't the case in my Sainsburys.

The fresh beef is sometimes Irish and the fresh pork is sometimes Danish or Swedish. Some of the organic beef is Argentinian and the lamb is from New Zealand.
