iPhone in the UK - Sums and play?

Well, I've been saving up for an iPhone for the best part of a year - and I fancy going for the 32Gb 3GS for the upfront price. 12 months free internet then only £10 a month after that.
For actual calls and texts, I'd be better to run an Asda PAYG sim on a cheapo handset...0 -

I believe O2 have held out until the very end with the iPhone 3G and retentions discounts. The only way you could get the iPhone 3G more cheaply was to pick up a refurbished handset.
I doubt that they'd be willing or allowed by Apple to give discounts for the iPhone 3GS. From what I gather Apple has ultimate control over the iPhone pricing policy as they could just remove O2's exclusivity if O2 started selling it too cheaply. (fat chance of that!)0 -

Correct in what you said, o2 have strict guidelines to follow when dealing with the iPhone. Basically having no control over anything to do with the iPhone.. mostly due to the strict contract they have together!0 -
I bought an original iphone in March of 2008, for £269. A few days after I bought it, price was slashed to £169. About two weeks after that, it was on Quidco with £100 back. So the prices may come down in the future, it just depends how much you NEED one now! I'm going to try and make do with the OS upgrade, but it's going to be hard...
Incidentally, I would recommend getiing form Carphone Warehouse if you do buy one. They had a price promise that if the cost of your phone is reduced within a month of you buying it, they will refund the difference. this happened automatically for me last year. The only downside was they send you a cheque to be spent in their shop rather than the cash. I don't know if this price guarantee still operates, but worth checking out.“All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt.” Charles M Schulz0 -
Carphone Warehouse guarantees http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/support/orders-deliveries-returns/our-guaranteesPosts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I don't believe so. The price is the price, irrespective of whether you're a new customer or looking for an upgrade.
As I mentioned previously, I've heard rumours that O2 might be having a re-think on some matters. Don't make any decisions until the weekend!0 -
So no changes to O2s pricng yet then....
