I have to say that a 42 inch tv is bloody heavy - it must of been a bit precarious for a 1 year old to knock it over...!Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
No - you want a TV as good as you have now, not to blindly buy a TV because of the logo on the front.
Not sure I would agree with you there.
If you had a Rolls-Royce, would you then want it replaced with a Tata.
Probably not.
The policy almost certainly says a "new for old" basis.
You are probably entitled to something equivalent.
So if you had a good brand and they wanted to replace it with an inferior brand then clearly you'd be unhappy.
Insurers often want to save money so sometimes you have to fight your ground.
However I would repeat the advice to check the price of jsut replacing it with the increase in premiums for 3 years and excess.
House insurance can double if you claim, so use a comparison site with zero claims and then with 1 claim and watch the difference, then bear in mind you will proabably face increases for 3 years.
I'm not up on the current price of TVs, but it needs to be checked out.
I had a car accident last year.
It could possible affect the price of 2 car and 2 motorbike policies for 3 years (as I'm insured on my husbands vehicles as well as my own).
That's a totl of TWELVE potential increases, so you do NEED to do the maths before claiming.0 -

He can get a replacement Sony if he wants but who says it will be as good quality?
If the Tata was as comfortable as a Rolls, and Rolls' standards had dropped recently I wouldn't be blindly looking for Roller!Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
He has a Sony TV - thats just a brand. If the Tata was as comfortable as a Rolls, and Rolls' standards had dropped recently I wouldn't be blindly looking for Roller!
Insurers do try to save costs and sometimes you have to fight for your rights.
However this si some way down the line.
With the way technology has changed, it's possible they may get a higher spec and better quality item.
Sometimes it is not possible to get the spec of items in people's houses, you HAVE to have a higher spec because that's all that's avaialble these days, so you are forced to have something better.
For example if you have a CRT TV, then they cannot now be bought, so you'd have to have something more modern.
I don't think they are entitled to a Sony just because they have bought a Sony but they are probably entitled to an equivalent product and not something vastly inferior.0 -
Just because he had a Sony, and he's buying a Sony - doesn't mean he's getting high quality.
He should ask for a replacement of equivalent quality - not just a replacement thats xx brand.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -

I agree with you totally.
Some people have brand loyalties, but their polcies do not usually entitle them to demand this.
They can however demand something equivalent.0 -
He's going to have a bit of a problem as Sony don't do Plasma TVs in the UK any more.
Panasonic do however. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

You could take a Panasonic tv and stick a Sony logo on the front and probably wouldn't know the difference unless you have good knowledge of the television industry.
Theres no point saying 'I have a Sony, therefore I want a Sony in exchange' because it doesn't work like that.Mastercard:£450/£700 [strike]Car finance: £0/£8200 [/strike]paid in full![strike]Credit agreement (laptop): £0/£550[/strike]paid in full! Barclaycard: £500/£7500
