Plazma TV fell over now broke can I claim?

Options
My 42" Sony plazma TV was knocked over by my 1 yrs old.

He is fine but now there are lines coming down the screen, its almost unwatchable.

Can I claim on home contents for a new one, if so would they repair or could I buy a new Sony one.

I would check your policy and if it mentions televisions give them a ring. My insurance covers accidental damage to televisions, computer screens etc although I don't have actually have an accidental damage policy just a standard one. It is worth a look.

No idea. Probably? A lot of contents policies cover home entertainment equipment for accidental damage even under standard cover.

Your insurers will choose to repair, replace, or offer a cash settlement on the TV. That's how insurance companies work.

I suggest you ring your insurers, keep a closer eye on your one year old child, and make sure your "future" TV is in a more secure position.
  • Yes it does cover accidental damage to TV.

But it still works just lines down the screen.

Will they fix it or will I get a new one?

Because its a Sony I only want another Sony, is that fair?

    Ring your insurers.

And if they're not open until monday, read your policy booklet.

    See:claims.

And next time, make sure such an expensive, heavy piece of kit is secured.

First have a look at the price of a new one.
Second compare the price of the new TV with you excess PLUS 3* (probably) years of increased premiums cos you claimed.
It might not be wirth claiming.

They will first try repairing it.

If it is to be replaced then they will try to find a similar model.
An exact replacement may be impossible as yours will be discountinued.
It's entirely possible the next best match won't be a SONY.
If they try giving you an inferior make you could complain but whether your claims would be valid I don't know.
You might even get a better or superioir model.
I suggest you stop inventing problems at this sage and work out whether you should claim as TVs are not now as expensive as they used to be.
Premiums can rise for 3 years so lets say your pemium rises £150 for 3 years and your excess is £50 then you need to work out whether you can buy a replacement for less than £500.

Also did you buy the cheapest policy you could find, or did you pay good money for a company with excellent claims service.
A lot of people buy rock bottom priced policies and then expect gold standard service.
Are you oe of those people?

But yes, you do need to make your house safer for your 1 year old.
I realise you can't watch them 24 hours but it doesn't sound very safe to me.
Our 42 inch plasma could not be oushed over by a small child so just in case it happened some other way then be aware the insurance company are likely to have experts that will know this.
  • Another super strength Toddler.

Funny how often toddlers manage to tip over valuable electrics.

It was news to me that Sony sold Plasma TVs in the UK.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
