How about a Caterham Seven?
Might not quite qualify as a hatchback though...No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
My mum is in the market for a new car (brand new) and she would like to buy a car that is manufactured in the UK. I've had a quick google but all i seem to get is ads... can anyone enlighten me with manufacturers they know who have UK factories? Thanks!!
Hi
We (The AA) have been asked this question many times so have put a list on our website. As a new user, I can't use a link, but go to theAA.com and type in 'cars manufactured in UK' in the Search box.“Official Company Representative

Don't lose sight of the fact this isn't just about car manufacturer jobs being saved, it is british dealerships too...hundreds closed in the past 12mths and the scheme is as much about preventing the losses of further jobs in Britain at dealerships (regardless of the brands they sell) as much as manufacturers.
Sales staff, admin staff, business staff, mechanics/technicians, valeters, drivers......they all count.“Official Company Representative

That's a useful list.
Just one amendment as far as I can see. Some Jags (X-type) and LRs (Freelander) are not made in the Midlands but in the Liverpool area.
Also to complete the list, Ford still produce some Transits in Southampton. I know it's not exactly a car, but if Vauxhall Luton plant gets a mention for it's van production....
The matter can further be complicated by the fact that although the companies mentioned in the list have assembly plants in the UK, the vehicle a customer buys may not have been assembled in the UK.
Buy a Morgan, Jag or LandRover and you know you can be safe in the knowledge you'll have bought a UK assembled vehicle, but buy even an Aston Martin (traditionally thought to be a UK vehicle), and if it's a Aston Martin Rapide, it'll almost certainly have been assembled in Austria!
When you get the the lower cost, higher volume producers, this is also true .e.g. not all Vauxhall Astras in the country were assembled in Ellesmere Port"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
