My mum is in the market for a new car (brand new) and she would like to buy a car that is manufactured in the UK. I've had a quick google but all i seem to get is ads... can anyone enlighten me with manufacturers they know who have UK factories? Thanks!!

Umm... Mini certainly used to have one, I think it is still in business, but not sure... based somewhere around Cowley in Oxfordshire I think. Also Ford Transits are made in the UK, but I don't really think your mum will be after one of them!

Does your mum want to call round for afternoon tea to see how her car is being made?

Just because they have a factory in the UK doesnt mean the model your mum wants is made there...

  • Kavanne's Mum sounds like a top girl, pity there's not a few million more like her...i used to buy only British made goods till i discovered i was almost alone, by then our country had been sold anyway.

Maybe if Kavanne would say what sort of car her Mum is after we could suggest which of the very few in her range are actually made here....it won't be a huge choice i'm afraid.

If she does then it is the MINI factory she needs to go to although the chances of seeing your car seem slim!

You have a better chance with Morgan I know my dad visited his 3 times while it was being built and you can get a build document. Visited 3 times while it was getting restored 30 years later as well.

My mum would like something that gets as many mpg as possible but still has decent size engine (1.4+, i would say). She currently has a peugeot 307 estate which she has decided is too big. I think a hatchback is more of what she's looking for now!

Still unsure why she wants the factory to be in the UK...? Or do you mean she wants a British car? Ie Ford, which have some Volvo, Peugeot and Citroen money behind them too...

Or Vauxhall perhaps. Nice British car maker, with erm, Saab (Sweeden) and Fiat (Italy) mixed in too... lol.

Stick with Peugeot maybe? They have a plant in the UK. Honda do too.

It seams pretty obvious to me that we wants to save British jobs?

A few spring to mind then that are made here, as already said above, but no one mentioned Toyota.

Toyota Auris made at Burnaston, Derby, quality car but get the larger diesel if diesel is her thing, the smaller one hasn't got much get up and go.

Nissan Note from Sunderland, surprisingly pleasant car to drive with very good smooth ride over how pot hole strewn third world British roads.
Quasqai (is that the way to spell it?) if she fancies something a little different with 4WD.

Honda Civic, and the Jazz will start production at Swindon soon if it hasn't already.

Vauxhall Astra (not coupe) made at Ellesmere Port, should be good bargains on current model as new model out soon.

Mini of course, though to me they are overpriced for a quite ordinary small car, and harsh ride over rough roads.

    Good luck with her choice.
