£25 min payment came out of my bank yesterday without even noticing :o so I'm counting that towards todays PAD, with the £5 I put in my sealed pot, that makes a nice PAD of £30

    50p PAD for me today.

Must do some sums today and update my spreadsheet. I have a balance of around £165 on my A & L card, but I think it would be cheaper :p to pay it off using my overdraft and then concentrate on bringing the overdraft back into line. Will make a plan today...I love a plan :D !

Well just nearly split my cuppa all over the keyboard when i saw that pic macgirl!
    Glad you made it home.

Hi all well finally received some money yesterday so paid £20 off my OD and £100.53 off the car insurance.

So my pads are £120.53, feels so good to pay some debt off, sad i know.
Dont even go they on the choccy front, ended having a munchie attack and had off chocolate.
  • I just wanted to sidetrack a little here.
I've got a spreadsheet that has a list of all my debts and updates the totals. When I get a credit card bill in, I add the interest on (that's actually recorded as a minus figure as two minuses = a +) and when a direct debit goes out I put that in too. The interest isn't too bad on most of the card debt as I have most of it on reasonable LOB deals. Obviously I put additional PADs into the spreadsheet. I pay my minimum payments plus additional PADs - they are very small at the moment as my overdraft limit is being slashed from June 30th. Obviously my loans are a constant amount going out each month. However, the minimum payments to my credit cards are gradually shrinking each month as they are a percentage of the outstanding balance.
Even paying minimum payments plus small, persistent PADs, my compulsory card outgoings have dropped by £37.74 since January 1st. I know minimum payments are not ideal but I've got to start somewhere.
However, there are several black clouds on the horizon that sometimes cause me anxiety.
    1) I still have £800 to pay the taxman by July 31st.
    2) I will have a very large tax bill to pay next January 31st and a fairly large one on July 31st 2010.
    3) I come off my fixed rate mortgage on August 1st and I have no hope of getting a switch. So it will be SVR based on the previous quarter's LIBOR rate + 2% for a long time to come. That might mean a small reduction initially but I can't see that being sustained for too long with all this talk of a bogus recovery.
    4) One of my credit cards is not on a LOB rate and will revert to 22.9% around August time. I owe nearly 4 grand on that one. I am currently attacking the other debt that is not on LOB (16.9%) with my additional PADs. If I am unable to clear that (which seems likely) before the 22.9% kicks in elsewhere, I will be fighting on several fronts at once and high interest will mean me not making much headway.
I may have to switch my line of attack to the 22.9er in the coming weeks.
I'm hoping that one of my current lenders will offer a deal that will make it viable for me to switch. I think it's more likely that I will be hung out to dry though.
Steps I have taken/am taking/will be taking to cut my spending.
    1) I have stopped my ripoff rate term assurance (£87.60 a month). I have no dependants.
    2) I cook a lot more at home instead of using a cafe. I use the cheaper brand goods and special offers from supermarkets. I get late in the day bargains on produce from the local market.
    3) I am currently gradually working my way through all the tat in my garage to do a boot sale late July/early August. That will bring in some one off money. It will also save me £9.55 a week rent for the garage as I intend to hand it back to the council.
    4) I will be contacting Virginmedia tomorrow to arrange paperless billing (save £1.25 a month).
    5) I would go elsewhere for my broadband and save money but the copper wire here is flakey even though I'm not too far from the exchange.

So some anxieties on the horizon but I always try to bear in mind a couple of saying that I've heard down the years
    1) Today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday.
    2) An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life.
"A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy-
It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.
One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance,
self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride,
    superiority, and ego
The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility,
kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and
    faith
This same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other
    person, too
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his
    grandfather,
    "Which wolf will win?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed"

I can apply the same principles to fear of financial security and to happiness. The one I obsess about (feed) is the one that will win.

I have had an awful life - and some of the things actually happened. :D
