Up until i started my diet i was a CHOCOHOLIC ! .... but since i started i haven't eaten any bars of CHOCCY at all .... although i have had a few chocolate cookies and occasionally some ice cream with chocolate sauce on it ...
I know that if i have so much as one bar of CHOCCY then my diet will go to pot ! ..... don't get me wrong , i will eat a chocolate muffin or something similar but definitely no mars bars or anything like that .... but if somebody bought me a box of CHOCCYs' i would eat them !!

I don't eat alot of choccy bars so I can't give them up! I drink semi-skimmed milk (skimmed is too much like water!) and eat brown bread and eat things like muller rice which are low in fat but I'm one of those people who just can't say no to cake! I love cake, it doesn't matter what kind it is, as long as there's no marziapn on it, I want it! Looks like I'm going to have to stop eating cakeStarted PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

Paul - You sound like quite a strong willed person so whatever difficulties are coming your way then I'm sure you'll be able to overcome them. I would start paying the cc that is due to be going to 22.9% now as there will be less of a balance when the higher rate kicks in. It doesn't matter how little you pay towards it, just remember that it's a little less than it was.
I know it probably doesn't seem like it just now but maybe your OD getting lowered is a blessing in disguise? Although it will obviously difficult for you to adjust, there will be less of it to spend so less getting charged in interest and really the bank has done you a wee tiny favour by paying some of your debt for you! (tell me if you think that's out of order saying that, I only said it because that's how I'd look at it - I try to look on the bightside most of the time)
I know very little about mortgages so I can't really try to give you any kind of support when it comes to your fixed rate ending...maybe it would be worth having a look around though incase you could get another fixed term deal elsewhere?
As for cutting back on shopping - have you considered maybe using things like stardrops for cleaning instead of other brands? It's cheap and you can use it for just about everything - even washing dishes! Or maybe (I'm being really tight just now so I always do this) - instead of buying, for example, a pack of 20 cheese slices, it can be cheaper to buy 2 packs of 10 or instead of buying 160 tea bags, it might be cheaper to buy 2 boxes of 80...It only saves pennies but we all know that if you look after the pennies - the pounds take care of themselves!
I hope things work out well for you, you sound like you could use a run of good luck.Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

Thank you for your thoughts on this.
just to address what you have written - I think I've probably covered much of it.
I may indeed start attacking the 22.9er first - even though is currently on 0%. It's a tough call really as my current attack is on the 16.9er. The subtle difference is in how the two companies handle direct debits. The 16.9er totally ignores my PADs and just takes the amount out that it said it would. This is what I want. However, the 22.9er deducts PADs from the direct debit (I don't want this). Once I start attacking the 22.9er (whenever that may be), I will have to contact them and come to a different arrangement with the direct debit - perhaps a fixed amount going out each month and hopefully no PAD deductions. Ultimately, it may mean me having to scrap their direct debit and making the minimum payment manually - thereby being able to make additional PADs without interference. It depends what they have to say about it really.
As for the overdraft reduction - I am with you on that one. That was a goal of mine anyway but I wanted to do it in my time rather than their's. They gave me 6 weeks notice of reducing it by £1,100. If I had been using it closae to its limit (as I was until last autumn), that would have meant finding nearly £200 extra per week to bring me into line. I did phone and ask for them to phase it in more slowly over 5 months (at £220 a month) but these days, being a bank's customer for 30 years counts for nothing. As far as I'm concerned, Abbey can go f*** themselves as they have been a masjor pain for some time past and haven't got a clue. They may be well capitalised but haven't a clue with customer service. If I were to list everything that they've screwed up in the past few years this post would be VERY long.
As for the mortgage, you're just going to have to take my word that there is no chance of going elsewhere for a deal. The recent drop in property prices mean that I'm on 100% mortgage or thereabouts. I would need to self certify it. Plus I have a lot of unsecured debt on top (see sig). So if property prices suddenly entered a steep climb and if lending rules were suddenly relaxed to make self cert easier again then maybe. It just isn't going to happen.
As for cleaning fluids, I spent a lot just after my LBM as I saw some good deals. I have enough products to last two or three years. I bought a load of Fairy that was about half price a few months ago. I even get tax relief on it as it's a business expense. There were also offers on other products. I have enough bargain priced rice and pasta to last me till next Xmas (and maybe beyond - so at least I won't go hungry (provided that I have a kitchen in which to boil it).
However, all of this is an absolute drop in the ocean to the hell I went through in my misspent youth. I take great comfort from the knowledge that no-one else can do anything to me that is worse than the things I have already done to myself. Therefore, I have learned how to feel reasonably happy even in the face of adversity.0 -
