Have popped home to a letter saying after 18 months of serious letter writing and lots of waiting, MBNA have finally agreed to repay hubby's PPI plus compensation for the distress caused :D FOS have outlined how they need to calculate the payments so we don't have an exact at the mo'. Anything is a bonus, especially with baby on the way and us needing to move!!

    Yay for good news :j

Well done, Andy on your weightloss, although i suspect tooth extraction is a rather severe approach to a weightloss diet!! ;):p

I don't know how this is with MBNA these days but they really used to push their credit card PPI very hard. Some years ago I received three telesales calls in a week from them. On the third one I declined, shall we say, a bit sharply. In spite of my three refusals, it still appeared as an item on my next MBNA bill. I phoned up and went totally ballistic at them. The milder words I threw at them were con artists and scammers. No point typing the worse ones as the board censor would edit them anyway. However, I wonder how many customers had sneaky PPI applied to their account(s) and never noticed.

When I spoke to Barclaycard last they said they could only offer me just short of £1,000 (95% of) but only have the 0% rate until December. Hardly seems worth it for the £3,200 balance I have. PLUS I ain't going to be earning after August... Tricky to do the juggling when no-one wants to give you anymore debt! :rotfl:

    Morning all,
    Happy Hump Day!
£10.24 to Barclaycard for me today. I need to do some serious number crunching today as I did do some sneaky spending while I was away :o I am going to get most of it back though so hopefully the dent in the finances will only be temporary.
    Have a great day all.

However, I wonder how many customers had sneaky PPI applied to their account(s) and never noticed.

Hubby took the card out many moons ago in an airport!! He had ticked no to the PPI but they charged for it anyway. At one point i'd noticed and they were asked to cancel it and refund. They refused to do the latter but did cancel it. After all the hooha about PPI it seemed worth trying to reclaim again. Their reason for refusal has been that hubby agreed to it on the 'phone(which hubby can't remember doing) but they had no proof anyway.

FOS have not been happy with them and it's gone all the way to the top ombudsman. Many letters have been written to counteract MBNA's desperate attempt to wriggle out of it. When MBNA sent the account to a debt collector in the middle of the process, FOS were made aware of hubby's struggle with depression and the impact it was all having. Again FOS were great and ordered them to recall the account, as well as pay compensation for the distress.

It was worth persevering and thank goodness for FOS, as i think this would have ended up in court otherwise.
