Hi all, I've posted on the site on a few occasions for different things but I really need your help again. I'm 26 and I have been a full-time carer for my mother for the past 2 1/2 years and 'unoffically' before this. During this time I have run up around £8000 worth of catalogue and overdraft debt and managed to keep up the repayments with a lot of help from my mother.
Last week my mother sadly died and I am left with the huge pressure of debts I can no longer afford. With the current climate I am unsure of when I will be able to find work and even if I do I doubt it'll be high paid (I do have a degree but it's not worth a lot). Mainly my reason for posting is to ask a few questions about DMP's if you lovely people don't mind.
Is there a minimum amount required to enter a DMP as I have around £90 coming in from residual benefits for the next month or so and a lot of outgoings to take into account also (I have a house to run on my own now, which I will fight tooth and nail to keep hold of as it's all my mum had to leave me).
Will the company do all the sorting out or will I still receive letters from crediters demanding payment? (all payments up until now have been up to date but not for much longer).
Sorry if these are silly questions but I'm in a bit of a panic about it all and don't really know what to do.
Thanks for your help.Official Norn Iron Club Member No. 119

Have a dilemna about my DMP.
I want to do a course and the only way I could pay for it would be to make 2 reduced payments on my DMP. I've worked it out and it would be a 40% reduction over 2 months but I'm worried about doing this. I know people make reduced payments in an emergency but is this well received? Would it not be as it is for a course so obviously not an emergency but I have no other way to pay for it I can't get credit can I!!
There is one big credit card that I would be worried about as their DMP acceptance says that if the agreed payment is not made the interest will revert back to normal (currently 0, should be 26.9%!) but if I could somehow make up the deficit separately that might sort that one? Could make up some other smallers ones aswell so that would just leave a few other big ones that I would be worried about.
Any thoughts anyone?
I have had a relatively trouble free DMP so far so don't want to risk changing anything and that is really putting me off but I sooo want to do this course...DMP with PayplanDMP Support number 287Trying to lose lbs and save £££s!0 -

Best thing to do is just ring payplan and get the ball rolling. They will analyse your income and debt amount and provide all the direction you need.
Can I have a number please?0 -

I would borrow it off a family member or good friend. Rather than reduce the DMP0 -
Good luck to all who are dealing with debts, it is a long road but you'll get there.
I, too am in debt (under10 grand) and was with payplan, but decided to go it alone once I was informed that my August 2009 date would actually be March 2010!! Disheartened as I was, I produced a budget sheet in excel where I laid out all my debts and determined how much I would realistically be able to pay off each month.
So far, I am one creditor down and 9 to go whereas staying with payplan, I'd be none down and 9 to go. Where's the fun in that?? this payday, I'll be bidding adieu to another and by the end of the year I'll only have two left. That is my motivation, knowing that next year will definietly be 1000 steps closer to be debt free for the first in a looooong time ;o).
So keep it up guys, if I (the absolute worst with money) can you most definitely can.
Cheers0 -
aamani, can i ask you - how do you do it by yourself? what is the best approach as thats what i would prefer - and responsibly pay my debts off.

Toffee_Penny wrote: »Sorry Kudox just re-read your post and saw you have a CCJ. Can I ask who from, what you had to do? OH has had a letter from Red Debt and it mentions attachment of earnings etc, now I thought creditors could only go for this if you failed to pay CCJ?
Am getting quite worried now reading through it all
I told cccs this and they said they would redirect the payments, but then only about a week later I had court papers from Northampton from Incasso. I had to fill in the admission form which included a budget section and I sent a copy of the cccs budget with it. The court made the judgement for exactly the same amount as I was paying before so they didn't gain anything:rolleyes:
I didn't get an attachment of earnings so not sure what circumstances would bring that about.
I was really p****d off about it, it was not as if I was refusing to pay, and thought about defending it, but in the end at least the debt is now a fixed amount, RBS were still piling on the interest so the debt was just increasing all the time. I would have asked for the CCA but it was an overdraft debt so not covered.
I was worried the CCJ would mean I couldn't make a F&F in the future if I am ever in that position:rolleyes: but cccs said I would still be able to negotiate with them.
I asked cccs about defending the claim but was told they couldn't help with that.
Ironically RBS have just refused our bank charge claim under hardship on the grounds that we have sufficient income to cover all our debts, that clearly is a nonsense when they've taken me to court to recover there debt!! And what they owe us in bank charges would cover the debt!!
Anyway they've shot themselves in the foot really, I'll carry on paying the piddling little amount the court says I have to, and it'll take years to pay off:rotfl:DMP Support Thread Member 238DMP started October 20080 -
