  • Hi debfreewish (and all)

We spoke with Payplan for the first time yesterday and are due a call from an assessor in the week, so we could soon be joining you!

Ultimately various things could be tried with regards going for your house etc. however (and I know it is easy to say this but I'm in a similar boat to you!) it is not as bad as it sounds.

Just because they "can go for it" doesn't mean they will get anything!

As long as you are honest, fair and responsible you have nothing to worry about.

Being in a DMP means you are taking responsibility and not just burying your head in the sand and hoping it will all go away.

Stick with it, be strong and some way or another we will ALL get through things.

    :)

Thanks it helps to hear from others in the same boat at least with a DMP there is light at the end of the tunnel otherwise Id be in an endless debt cycle and Id rather not borrow any more on our house so this is the only solution.
Im sure youll hear from payplan very soon I was very impressed at how quickly they respond I had been told by fee charging companies that the free companies take ages to respond but this wasnt the case with payplan.

This has been explained better by someone else on the other thread i think, can't remember by who but hopefully they'll be along sometime soon. But I have an o/d that is charging me interest and charges which are bigger than my pp payment so the debt is going up instead of down. I've asked pp about this as i was inderstandably worried and they have told me not to worry. Apparently when it gets close to the end (in their eyes, ie based on the numbers they have now) they will go to these companies and request the charges etc be forgotten and left off. And Apparetnly this normally always works!! I know this is very scary and risky to trust this at this point but just wanted to pass on what i got told. Maybe give them a ring and ask about it to get your worries put to rest. Also it doens't always work but if you ask them they will ask creditors again to stop charging etc. i think they ask and then just assume we'd let them know if it didn't work and that we wanted them to ask again!

I'm really glad I'm with pp personally, for me it takes a lot of the hassle away and they are always very good at making me feel better. I agree they aren't the best at getting back to you. But when i ring them and I get through they are always very very helpful. So I tend to always ring them if I have a question. Rather than emailing and asking for a call back.
    Hi

I have since written to CCCS to get there view on the matter, and this was there reply.
    Hi
    Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately If Lloyds are not willing to stop charges then you will need to keep sending payments until the debt is paid off.
What Lloyds may do is pass the debt to another collector, If they do this there is more of a chance that the interest will stop or even reduce.
    Kind regards

So i'm thinking now that I could be paying off Lloyds for many many years to come with the amount of interest being added. :(

Hi some of my ballance went up before they went down, they will eventually default you or pass you on to debt collection company...this is the best thing as they will accept lower payments via the dmp with no interest. It took 2 years for one of my creditors to default me but luckly they had stopped interest way before that, they were happy for 24 months then suddenly decided to pass the debt on, but new company dealing with it fine and getting lower payments due to ballance being lower and now classed as new creditor so payplan had to reassess payments based on current ballances.

That's what i'm hoping for. But we've been on the DMP now for 4 years, and the account is still with Lloyds, and after 4 years, the balance is higher than what it was when we first started. We've got absolutely no-where. And its not like we're paying nothing, £202 per month is plenty for just one creditor. The rest of the £500 gets split amongst the other creditors. We just can't afford to pay anything more. We're broke at the end of each month, and, to us right now, we're completely out of options.

Is it an overdraft with lloyds or loan?
My overdraft and loan were with natwest and they are my biggest creditor...they merged the 2 ballances together added on all interest that would have been due on loan if i had paid correctly, then have since stopped all interest.
They are currently getting £287 a month as their payment and ballance is dropping...like me you are well into a dmp and if you feel payplan havent tried hard enough to stop the interest why not give it a go yourself...if you ring them and ask if there is a possibility of reducing if not stopping future interest as they can see you have been paying via a dmp for a number of years and are serious about clearing your debt.
Its worth a try...i have done this myself with one of my credit cards Halifax and i got them to put me on no interest for 6 months then on a lower rate after that.
They can only say no and you are no worst off.

Hello - i only found this thread today. can i ask for some advice?
we are in a real muddle - OH lost job recently - we used to have big income so was not too much of a problem paying etc. we have managed to agree with cheltenham and glos with a 3 month mortgage hols till november and then interest only if needed, i have spoken to ltsb and have ppi on two loans but the other 2 have nothing and they say they will not negotiate with me until i speak to cccs [which i have done but not had consultation yet], tomorrow i register for jsa, we have negotiated with egg on reducing loan payment and cc payment for a year. but we have halifax/mbna/other loans / hp which i have not yet dealt with. do you know wha tis the best approach to these people?
thanks - i feel that our sitiuation is only short term when OH gets job it will right its self again.
    thanks in advance
