    Hi Guys,

Wrote to all five of our creditors a couple of weeks ago and the replies have started this week. Halifax seem to have accepted the amount offered but a very benign letter not really confirming anything and not mentioning interest. Today had a letter from HSBC CC. They are our main creditor with a CC, Loan and overdraft. They have not accepted the amount offered but suggested a higher amount (almost double but still reduced) and will not stop any interest. They have also stated we must pay by 21st May. Our offer was to start 26th June to give us a months breathing space. They state if we don't comply the offer of reduced payment is withdrawn and they will make steps to recover full amount. Bit scared:eek: (We are on a self administered DMP)
    What do we do now!!
Started Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.
Working hard to get rid of our debt.

saskia1 - i dont really want to delve into your own situation but is it possible to save on a DMP? i would love to be able to save but didnt think that you could as you had to pay what you had towards the dmp.. or have you set your dmp to allow for a surplus each month??... again apologies if you think that im being nosey im just wanting to get things right for me and my family :)

hi saskia1 - im new to all of this and am just now looking at starting a DMP and am really nervous.

How did you get all of this going? Im basically now looking at a reduced income and we need to get a hold of the debts on credit cards and loans. Did you do this yourself or through the CCCS? How was your creditors response? Im nervous about CCJ's or any bailiffs??

I know i should start sending the first letters to creditors but am putting off as once there sent thats it... you make it sound all so easy!

I started my DMP in December 2009 with CCCS. They have been brilliant and I would definitely recommend them. You don't even have to speak to them if you prefer not to. I completed their online Debt Remedy and communicated by email. The DMP pack was sent out within days with paperwork to send to creditors. CCCS dealt with all creditors and I have a lot! If a creditor did call I simply told them I was setting up DMP with CCCS and they were fine about it.

Since then all but one has frozen or greatly reduced interest. Life is so much less stressful.
Be brave and take that first step to contacting one of the debt charities and life will improve!

Guys i just had to tell, LLOYDS HAVE STOPPED INTEREST on my account. In keeping with their normal customer service levels, they didn't tell me but it has actually stopped since March 1st. It was our smallest debt but I have been like a dog with a bone, and was fairly determined they were going to play fair and they have, finally.

That's great news Pure Dead Dopey. I also had a bit of good news in the post today, one of my creditors has writen off the remainder of my debt to them without me even having to ask them :) It's only a very small amount but it's one less creditor :) I had been paying them via my CCCS DMP for the past 9 months, I had 3 payments remaining but on the statement I received today they had credited my account by the amount outstanding and closed my account, I now hope they do that with the other 3 accounts I have with them :rotfl:
but theres no chance of that happening ;)

That's a hell of a result. I'm only two months into a DMP and there's no sign of that happening yet ;)

It's good to know that there is always the possibility of good news in amongst bad to look forward to.
  • Hey you experienced people,

I sent my DMP stuff back to CCCS yesterday (proof of income, statements etc) and sent all my letters off to the various companies.

How long is it before I will hear back from the companies and CCCS to move things forward?

Also will some creditors try and negotiate a higher payment?

CCCS don't take long to get back to you and write to creditors for you, I think they took about ten days with mine. But how long it takes creditors to respond is another matter!!!

None of my creditors asked for a higher payment either
