  • Morning all!

Just wanted to say Hi and well done to everyone on here, you're all doing so well! Congrats JOJ!!
Cloudy-day - Well done to you for making the first step and for posting on here it'll be the best thing you have done. We have shed loads of debt with a DFD of a million years away, but in feb this year we too took the plunge annd on April 1st made our first DMP payment. . . . . . .our lives are now 100% better.
I konw you're not feeling great at the moment and worrying about all sorts...when we started the ball rolling I cried for days, my head was spinning I had so much going on. We too have a loan with NR and there are some real horror stories on here regarding them, I made the mistake of reading them all and was convinced that they were going to make life difficult for us, but I couldn't have been more wrong! NR were the first to accept our DMP payment and we've not heard a peep from them since.
Keep positive, you will stop worrying soon and you will start to see that little light at the end of the long tunnel that we all start to catch a glimpse of at the start of our DMP journeys.
    Take care my fellow DMP'ers
    MD xx
Finally brave enough to deal with my debts! :D

Finally (after months of indecision) sent off my letters today. Why do I feel so sick and worried then? Would have thought I would feel better but no, just feel 100 times worse. So so worried and frightened.

    I have CCs with:
    Egg*2
    Abbey
    MBNA (A&L)
    Citi
    Debenhams (GE money)
    M&S

and a loan with NR - the thought of a charging order terrifies me as the mortgage is joint and DH doesn't know. All the debt is in my name.

Please reassure me - think I'll just agree to go back to the minimums after one scary call or letter, not that I can afford now...

You have done the right thing and come to the right place!!! I think everybody has felt the fear and panic you are going through now. IT does get better. A DMP is not easy (only early days too with mine) but you get control back of your life. Only thing I would say is difficult though it is you have to come clean with loved ones - you can't carry the responsibily and worry yourself. Good luck - you'll find lots of support.

Just wanted to say well done Jo....fab news and can't wait to be in the same position, although have at least 5 years to go..:j:j:j:T:T:beer:. Also I have a loan with NR and they accepted DMP almost straight away, have had one review with them and again this went smoothly, second year into DMP and I keep praying and keeping everything crossed that I have no hassle from any of my creditors, at this moment in time all on board and have heard nothing apart from my monthly statements. Only Lloyds continue to put interest on  but accepted DMP.

Hang on in there those starting out, and good luck.

Hi cloudy-day, I'm just starting out as well. My DMP strts on 1st September as well. This month I made token payments to everyone, and haven't (yet) had any hassle. I feel much more positive for getting my head out of the sand and taking positive action for a debt free future. Like you all the debt is in my name and although I've told OH that I have cut up my cards and am starting to pay them off, he doesn't know the overall position. It does cause some stress, but not as much as him not understanding why I don't have any money. I'm hoping that as the dmp beds in this will settle down and I will have some money throughout the month. I'm sure I have done the tright thing and that you have as well - good luck!

Thanks for the above and other positive thoughts. Feeling better today - know I've done the right thing but scared anyway.

Can't tell OH, long story - illness (his) has contributed to this and I will not be burdening him with it.

Great to hear someone has cleared their debts!

    Thanks again
  • Well done JOJ, fabulous news.

Cloudy-day - we have a massive loan with NR (around £20k) and they were the first to accept the DMP, no problems with them at all. Good luck with everything.

Hi to all the newbies just starting out (and the not so newbies:D)
Just to repeat what I said the other day, I don't think theres a set way that creditors treat people, I really do think it's whoever happens to deal with it on the day and what side of bed they get out of:rolleyes:

Northern Rock have also been brilliant with me, I'm coming up to 12 months now and I've literally not heard a word from then except even before the first payment was made saying they were accepting.

Like I said, 12 months in now for me and I can't believe the difference it's made, actually paying for stuff with cash and if we haven't got it we don't have it simple as that. Don't get me wrong it's hard sometimes when you're skint before the end of the month (sometimes 3 weeks before:eek:)
but rather that than go back to the old days of sticking it on the card.

To everyone at the start it really does get better, there is life after credit:j:j:j
