Hi cloudy-day, I'm just starting out as well. My DMP strts on 1st September as well. This month I made token payments to everyone, and haven't (yet) had any hassle. I feel much more positive for getting my head out of the sand and taking positive action for a debt free future. Like you all the debt is in my name and although I've told OH that I have cut up my cards and am starting to pay them off, he doesn't know the overall position. It does cause some stress, but not as much as him not understanding why I don't have any money. I'm hoping that as the dmp beds in this will settle down and I will have some money throughout the month. I'm sure I have done the tright thing and that you have as well - good luck!

  • Hi Y'All

I am so sorry to have to post a gloat, but I am bursting....

Today I have had confirmation from ALL MY LOUSY CREDITORS that I have a £0.00 (shall I say that again...£0.00) balance and that my accounts are closed.

OMG I am sooooooo excited. I know it was kinda official when I sent off the last payment, but I tell you to see in black and white that I am no longer a customer of theirs is probably (except for the birth of my son 11 years ago) the best single most feeling in the world. I feel a little sick, a little nervous and I am taking my other half out for tea with a 2 for 1 offer at Pizza express (once on a budget, always on a budget!!).

Keep going all, I wish you could feel what i do today and when days are bad and you are struggling with your budget til payday I hope I can give you some strength, again, that you made the right decision. I dont know whether to laugh or cry!

Sorry, gotta go and celebrate - again......

Congratulations JOJ hopefully I will be feeling like you 1 day 'hopefully' before i'm 40!!??!!

I spoke to Payplan today they were really nice and are calling me on friday to do my expenses run through etc.

Don't know whether to add my mobile phones to the DMP or not? I'm not in arrears with them but I have 2 phones on my contract 1 for me 1 for OH. Together they cost me £65 a month and i'm in the contract til Aug 09 (18mth contract), I have contacted the phone company and the termination fee is £600!! which I don't have , but if PP sort me out a DMP for my cards I could probably afford the phones?!? not sure what to do?!?

Have convinced OH to start asap with this as I would love to have it all set up before xmas, my mum and dad have been really supportive to and my dad said he knew it was coming as there is no way on my wages I could ever have paid all this money back and he said I have probably paid them back in interest anyway (have had CC debt's since I was 18 , going to be 30 in October)!!!!

Anyway thanks again for everyone's help on here it's so nice to hear people's stories and know that i'm not alone! Have already had the whole massive 'but why did you have to get into so much debt'? conversation with OH, funny they don't complain when their getting everything they want, what did he think we were living on, I have a poorly paid job so??? Money doesn't grow on trees!

    hmmmm wish it did !!!
    Goal weight....lighter than when I started :D

I added my mobile to the plan, just included it in with telephone/broadband expenses! Would also give you some extra cash to stash for F&F's if you find it is surplus or would give you the option to increase DMP payments after your first review. Not sure exactly how it works as I'm just starting out myself but would have thought it would be better to put it on initially just in case rather than add it later! Also think you have to give details of all income and expenditure for them to work out your DMP payment.

Know exactly what you mean about OH's mine has his head in the sand too, just because he doesn't spend lots of little amounts he thinks he never spends anything! But he appears to forget when he spends the odd £2-300 every couple of months!! Mine has an idea but haven't gone into full details with him think he may have a heart attack!

Hope this has helped a little, sorry couldn't help more.

JOJ, how brilliant is that? It just sums up the end goal for all of us.

GPUK, so pleased to see you've started the ball rolling, you won't regret it.

Kudox, I hope it works out for you with RBS.

I logged onto my Justabank account today to see that some of my creditors' balances have been updated already! (Gone up unfortunately due to the interest, not down!) The thought that PP have been in contact with them now makes me feel rather weird, but also good :)
