jamesperret - They're not 'Freesat' branded boxes and only really for satellite techies.

According to the blurb I've seen they come pre loaded with the common channels and are intended to be used in place of a Sky box for those who already have a dish. As I understand it, this is a forum devoted to saving money so I thought this was a reasonable suggestion. Yes, you need to know a little more to use them but no more than tuning in a conventional telly.

    Cheers

Not quite as simple as " tuning in a conventional TV ", also they do not have the Freesat EPG or PostCode facilities, only really suitable for enthusiasts as suggested before.

Yes, you can get a Freesat box or a Sky box, the choice is yours.

  • Depends what channels you want.

If you're happy with the Freesat channels, then just go out and buy a box. No further subscription required.

If there's Sky channels you're after, you will obviously need to buy a box (a second hand one would be fine) and you'd need a subscription.
You can use a Sky box without a card or subscription if there's nothing you specifically want to watch and you'd get their Free to Air channels.

But a Freesat box (or a Sky sub for a year) will cost you as much as getting an external aerial fitted.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Looks like the freesatfromsky webpage has been removed ... it now just takes you to the normal sky products page!

Maybe they don't do it anymore?

I think you have to phone the tel no that comes up with sky products page and ask for the card, gone to £30 now unless you can get it cheaper.
