Can you still get Freesat and does sky+ work with it?

I can't have normal freeview as a lack of aerial but am looking to cancel as don't watch it enough and trying to cut down on costs.
I would like free sat as think this would solve both issues but not sure if its still available? Also i would still want the recording/forwarding facility.
Any advice?

Cancel what? Do you currently have a Sky+ subscription?
If you do and you cancel your subscription, the card will revert to a Free to View card which gives you these channels from FreesatfromSky. You will lose your recording facilities on the box.
Non subscribers can pay £10/month to use the recording facilities.
You can opt to go the Freesat route, but you would need to buy a new box, which if you want to record is currently around £250 for the Humax unit.Dave. :wave:0 -
As above, I think you have a Sky+ box and want to cancel. Your sky+ box will received the FreesatFromSky channels, and will no longer record.
There is currently 1 Freesat (as in BBC/ITV Freesat, not freesatfromsky) recorder, similar to sky+, but also HD, called the Humax HDR. As above, it can be had from Richer Sounds for £250 (probably less than the cost of 1 yr subscription) and is an excellent box. Any Freesat device will directly replace a Sky box, no dish adjustments. The same requirements apply to the recorders - 2 feeds from the dish to allow watch one/record one functionality.
Let us know how it goes...0 -
thanks almillar - been looking for the plain english answer to this question for ages - well done0

Panasonic have just brought out a Blu-ray recorder with built in Freesat that lets you record two channels in HD in the same way as Sky+ does. It's a snip at £899 for the 250gb version or £999 for the 500gb. :whistle:0

While the Humax boxes are good, there are cheaper alternatives.
CPC sell a range of satellite receivers, some of which can be plugged into a USB hard disk to give you the ability to record programmes from under 50 pounds.

jamesperret - They're not 'Freesat' branded boxes and only really for satellite techies.0

you can grab a recordable freeview box (PVR) for about £180 from Argos - these do they same job as Sky+0

Indeed, but the OP has said that they don't have a TV Aerial.0 -
Some of the threads indicated he/she may have sky+, if so then usually a dish as comes with it. If not, then the freesat router (dish and install inc)and the £180 for the box rather than the £250.
hopefully this helps...0 -
Wouldn't the cheapest solution be to get an aerial and then a Freeview PVR (Humax T3200 is a good one)?No free lunch, and no free laptop0
