Hi folks,

I live in a terrace house and we are having sky installed today. I didn't want the dish installing on the front of the house as it looks unsightly so asked him to install it on the back of the house. This couldn't be done as he didn't have the right bracket (even though next door had theirs that way with the bracket) so the only option was on the wall between ours and nextdoors (see pic below)

The other thing I should say is that our TV aerial is also mounted on that wall.

Next thing our (normally very calm and friendly) neighbour comes out ranting at the installer asking why he's putting it there saying everyone else (one person really) has theirs on the back of the house. Engineer says he can't do that as doesn't have the bracket. I then overhear neighbour say "bloody people come moving in here and think they can do what they like"

As I say we normally say hello, smile - not best friends but never had the slightest problem.

Have I done anything wrong here installing it on that wall? I was very surprised that he came out ranting, he's quite old and normally friendly enough and quiet so I couldn't understand it....

    Better pic to show....

Our house is in the yellow lines and the sattelite dish is where the yellow circle is.

Our TV aerial is mounted just above where the circle is on that same wall...

LOL. Got to say neighbours are no longer friendly.

The engineer can put the sky dish at the back. If he/she does not have the bracket they can still obtain this. The engineer is just being lazy.

Even funnier.... just looked at the picture. You are installing a satellite dish on someone elses wall? What??

Have to agree with Teddy, it looks as if dish is being installed on somebody elses wall. Wouldn't be very happy if it were my house. :(

Sky engineer not having bracket is no excuse for not putting dish at back of your property. I live in conservation area & no dishes allowed at front of properties. Sky engineers are used to such scenario's & if he didn't have bracket on board, should have gone off to collegue working nearby to get one or rescheduled installation for another day.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

But if that "someone else's wall" was not there my house wouldn't have a wall on that side....? Surely in a terraced house its a shared wall?

And howcome my aerial can go on someone else's wall?

The engineer said that he didn't have a bracket with him so not really being lazy, would have been less work to put it in the back for him.

I do believe in live and let live but I agree, it does look like it's on your neighbour's house. I wouldn't be best pleased either if there were a better option like the back of the house.

The best option for everyone except your lazy engineer would be the back wall.

If that house wasn't there, that bit of wall wouldn't be there either. You would have a wall that stopped at your roof. The bit above your roof is part of next door.

I dont blame the bloke for being annoyed.

The installer was being lazy, he didn't want to have to go away and get the correct bracket, he just wanted in, job done and out.

If I were walking past your house, I would assume that the dish belonged to your next door neighbour.;)

I'm not surprised your neighbour is cross with you. Why didn't you ask permission first?

If anyone started drilling into my bricks (when I hadn't hired them or given permission) I'd be cross too.

Can you try to repair your relationship with your neighbour with an apology and gift?

The bit you want to put the dish on is part of your neighbours house and not yours. That makes it their wall in my book. Legally it is still a party wall because it's on the boundary of your two properties.

So you can make minor changes to the wall, putting up a sky dish is probably one of them.

So legally, and I'm not legally trained, you look like being in the clear, but if I were your neighbour I'd be upset too.
