You can make it with porridge oats, but it's nicer made with either all or part good quality oats. I sometimes use a bit of oatmeal, which gives a slightly different texture, just depends what needs using up.
If you want nice granola at a reasonable price, then home made is good."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Try a health food shop, I use jumbo oats.
I make mine with maple syrup, veg oil, dried fruit (cranberries etc) linseed, sunflower seeds etc.
This is the recipe and I just adapted it for my tastes ie not keen on sunflower seeds.

AFAIK, regular porridge oats are "rolled oats"The oat grain is rolled to open up the grain and make them more digestible.
I regularly make granola, and that's what I use.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

Sorry for making a new thread - I did search for making granola but got no results, the search on these forums is terrible sometimes (it either gives me no results, or gives me a thousand out of chronological order so I still can't find what I'm looking for).
Hi thriftymanc,
Don't worry about making a new threadbut if you're having difficulty with the search this thread by squeaky may help.
I searched but couldn't find anything

I found this recipe yesterday which looks quite simple, even better it has 4 things I have in the cupboard.
The fifth is oats but not sure which is the best to buy.
At the risk of sounding thick.........,
.
Most of the oats I have seen in the supermarket are porridge oats, is this exactly the same as just 'oats'?
