This is the recipe I use - varied depending what I have in :D I store mine in an airtight jar and it keeps for weeks.

I'll add your question to that thread so that you can browse other recipes ;)

    Hi thriftymanc

It's not something I've made but Thriftlady's recipe (post #5) in the main granola thread suggests that using regular oats is fine:

    Granola

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the advice in one place.

They certainly will. I used Tesco's value/Asda smartprice porridge oats. Thriftlady has a decent recipe, I seem to recall. Hang on... here.

You can make it with porridge oats, but it's nicer made with either all or part good quality oats. I sometimes use a bit of oatmeal, which gives a slightly different texture, just depends what needs using up.

If you want nice granola at a reasonable price, then home made is good.

Try a health food shop, I use jumbo oats.

I make mine with maple syrup, veg oil, dried fruit (cranberries etc) linseed, sunflower seeds etc.

This is the recipe and I just adapted it for my tastes ie not keen on sunflower seeds.

Does anyone here make their own granola? All the recipes I've seen call for rolled oats but I can't seem to find anywhere that sells them

AFAIK, regular porridge oats are "rolled oats" :) The oat grain is rolled to open up the grain and make them more digestible.

I regularly make granola, and that's what I use.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Sorry for making a new thread - I did search for making granola but got no results, the search on these forums is terrible sometimes (it either gives me no results, or gives me a thousand out of chronological order so I still can't find what I'm looking for).

    Hi thriftymanc,

Don't worry about making a new thread :) but if you're having difficulty with the search this thread by squeaky may help.

I searched but couldn't find anything

I found this recipe yesterday which looks quite simple, even better it has 4 things I have in the cupboard.

The fifth is oats but not sure which is the best to buy.

At the risk of sounding thick......... :o, :D.

Most of the oats I have seen in the supermarket are porridge oats, is this exactly the same as just 'oats'?
