I went shopping on Sunday as usual and decided that I should get some cereal that I like. I found a pack of granola type cereal that I had had once before. Picked it up and put it in the trolley.... then realised that it cost £3.49 for not a very big bag full. THen I remembered a recipe in this month's Delicious (DOn't get this very often!) that I had spotted. Checked it out... looks perfect...
What I am wondering, is why there is 2 tbsp oil in it? It's mixed in with the liquid portion of the recpe. Planning to have a go at this tomorrow."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

My recipe has oil in too, I think it glues it all together0

Hi purpleivy,
I've added your thread to the granola thread as your question and the replies may be helpful to other readers.

The delightfully named nicifer_noonoo has posted a thread with a new recipe link http://www.recipegoldmine.com/breakcereal/breakcereal.html I spent over an hour yesterday looking at Amish and cowboy recipes. This link takes you to the breakfast cereal part of the site.
I remember first having - crunchy granola - in New Zealand in the early 70's. People made their own. I think Johnson's Original Crunchy is the same.

As with everything else I'm trying, I'll have to make myself feel even better by working out how much I'm saving!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Well, I made the granola yesterday, using the recipe from this month's delicious mag.
Reading through this thread I discover that maybe it would have been better to leave the cranberries until after baking. Just had a good jaw workout!
It didn't stick into clumps, but I suspect that recipe doesn't have as much sticky stuff in it as some.
I used wheatbran instead of oatbran. It's a bit like sawdust isn't it?
Fairly pleased for a first go, but I think it might be a good idea to make smaller batches until I get a formula I can be entirely happy with and that I can vary as desired. The batch I have done is just over a kg and there is only me that eats it!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Hello everyone :wave
I've lurked for ages on OS threads and am amazed and impressed mightily with everyone here. I was asked for a good recipe for Granola the other day by a chum and thought that here would be the best place to ask. I have made it years ago from whatever oats, dried fruit and syrup happened to be around - but it was awfully rich [and very more-ish!] and probably very expensive. So, to finally get to the point:rolleyes:, does anyone have a recipe which is not incredibly calorific and relatively inexpensive, or am I just hunting griffins asking for this?
No matter what the response, thank you one and all for a wonderful improvement to my life, the reading alone is great, the advice is a great bonus.
DGIf you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!0
