There's a few recipes in this thread... think I'll have to try some out myself, at the moment I buy it (lazy thing!)

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!

    Hi

This isn't exactly proper granola, but I like it cos it's really quick so its good in the morning if you haven't made a batch.
Heat a bit of oil (a tbsp? - sorry I don't really know quantities) in a pan, add a load of oats and keep stirring until they are coated and cooking. Chuck in the other fruit or seeds that you want, then add some honey or sugar and keep stirring until it's dissolved, about a minute.
Thats it. Like I say it's not quite the same as the baked stuff, it's not as chunky, but quick to do.

I didnt realise granola was so easy to make!

I usually buy the dorset cereals which are ~£3.69 a pack, i know expensive but they are sooooo tasty!
I found a recipe for granola and being the end of the month im low on both food and money, so made a few substitues to avoid going to the shops. Resulted in me being very pround to have saved £3.69 this month :j and used up some of my linguring store cupboard items! :T
Now I have a whole jar of homemade granola and it is delicious, heres how i did it.

PREHEAT OVEN TO 170C AND LINE A GRILL/ROASTING TRAY WIH BAKING PAPER.

    1/3 cup honey
    1/4 cup maple syrup
    1/3 cup vegetable oil
    2 TBSP water
    1 capfull vanilla flovoring
MIX TOGETHER IN A BOWL TO COMBINE LIQUIDS

    4 cups oats
    1/4 cup sesame seeds
    1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
3/4 cup mix of pecan, brazil & cashew nuts roughtly chopped
    1/4 tsp cimmamon
    1/4 tsp salt
    MIX DRY INGREDIANTS TOGETHER

ADD THE LIQUID INGREDIANTS TO THE DRY INGREDIANTS AND STIR WELL SO EVERYTHING IS COATED EVENLY. PLACE THIS MIXTURE INTO YOU PRELINED TRAY AND POP IN THE OVEN.
kEEP STIRING THE MIXTURE EVERY 5-10 MINS, SO THAT EVERYTHING IS GOLDEN BROWN AN NOT BURNT. sHOULD TAKE AROUND 30MINS TO COOK.

    REMOVE FROM OVEN AND ADD
    1/2 cup sultanas
1/2 cup roughtly choped dried apricots

STIR TOGETHER AND STORE ON YOUR WORKTOP IN A BEAUTIFUL JAR!

This mixture is very moorish, sadly all of it wouldnt fit into the ikea spring liidded glass jar i have, so i was left with a handful to eat! it was difficult but i managed to eat the lot! This granola isnt too sweet, its lovly and crunchy, cannot wait to have it wih some greek yog for breakfast!

The hardest part was trying to pour it from a roating tin to a jar, very eventful!

This is a good recipe,it's American so uses cups-get a cup that holds about 8 fl oz of liquid.

    3 cups oats
    1 cup wheatgerm
    1 cup sunflower seeds
    1 cup desiccated coconut
1 cup chopped nuts or pumpkin seeds

Hi there! I'm wanting to make this; please can someone tell me what wheatgerm is and where I can buy it

As far as I know it is the bit of the wheat grain that grows into a plant -the embryo if you like. It is removed in white flour.

You should be able to get it at a supermarket either stored with the baking stuff or with the cereals. It is usually in bags rather than boxes. Failing a supermarket a health food store will have it.

Personally I never bother with wheatgerm anymore as granola was the only recipe I was using it for. I just use more oats. The recipe is really flexible-just stick to 7 cups with at least 3 of oats then you can vary the other ingredients as you like. All kinds of nuts are great and sesame seeds. You could use barley and wheat flakes too.

I made granola this week for the first time, I have bags and bags of oats which my kids have as porridge every day so thought I would also use it to make granola as I dont like the texture of porridge.

The great thing about granola is that you can use whatever you have on hand, I used coconut, pine nuts as I didnt have any other, oats and a mixture of honey and golden syrup as I didnt have enough honey, raisins, cinnamon. I wouldnt bother with wheat germ either.

I use 5 cups jumbo oats and the rest of whatever I fancy - currently its coconut, almonds, pumpkin, sesame and sunflower seeds with dreid cranberries after baking. I use apple juice and oil for the liquid. I did a delish and very luxurious one with dried mango and macadamia nuts int he new year - mmmmm
