Hello everyone, and forgive me for reviving an old thread but I relate to so much which has been posted here! (Thank you - it's made for such interesting reading!)

I have never found throwing stuff away very easy. I almost panic at the thought of throwing or giving away "good" stuff!

Someone mentioned giving away a set of cut cristal glasses.....Eeeek! Those are valuable ! (Laughing here at myself. My "best" glasses sit in my glass-fronted kitchen cupboard and never get used. I use the cheapo wine glasses for everyday use...)
I can't bring myself to do it, yet my house is bulging with stuff! My bedroom is cluttered and what should be a lovely tranquil place has become a dumping ground. I despair.

How can you give good stuff away??
This is what I have the biggest problem with...and it applies to clothes too. I keep old clothes - some no longer fit and many are out of fashion, yet I paid a lot for them, they are good quality and "too good to throw away".

I am not one of the worlds best organised people. In principle I believe in charity and giving - so why on earth do I hesitate when I could pack up things and take them to the charity shop? Laziness? Complacency? I have no idea.....Part of my problem is lack of effort and feeling rather overwhelmed by it all - but I do find it so hard to dispose of good things. I am not organised enough to put stuff on Ebay or do a car-boot sale, so my options are to throw things away or give them away! It all seeems so overwhelming that I do nothing - and then the space in my house becomes even more scarce!

I can recycle papers and bin junk mail etc, no problem, and I am a clean person by nature, but I have kitchen cupboards and drawers bulging with things I hardly use. My bedroom is cluttered with piles of clothes I have outgrown or never used, and yes, I have to duplicate somethings, by buying more, because I cannot find the originals under all the clutter!

How do Ikick-start myself into solving this hoarding problem? I want my life, and my house back!

I'd be greatful for any ideas...I just need to get started and fling.....(but I might need someone to force me to do it I think!)

    Thanks for reading.....

I know this thread is from a long way back but certainly struck a chord with me as I've been trying to be 'brutal' with myself over sorting out paperwork especially. (Why do they send so much?) I've found a lot of these tips helpful and feel like I'm (slowly!) getting there by just doing a drawerful or carrier bag full a day. I try not to get bogged down by reading everything, just sorting into 'car', 'pensions', 'tax' etc and throwing out the obvious dross. It's so encouraging to have a bag full of shreddings at the end:D I'll then go through them again putting the important ones into the box files that I've already started and hopefully clearing even more out. So thanks everyone, you've spurred me on!
My little tip: I keep adding to a bag as I come across clothes etc which we don't use any more. The first charity bag that comes through the door for collection gets them! I don't have to deliver them and don't have much time to fish them out again!:rotfl:
The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Why not join in the current declutter thread ;)

I'll close this now to prevent confusion.
