Help needed to throw things out

oh dear, just realised I've been thinking of you as 'percycatflap'
I read it as catflap too!
I must admit that it can be daunting if you look at all the clutter and think you've got to clear it but if you do it in little bits its not so bad.
Our attic was so cluttered with rubbish that was either broken or we would never use again and empty boxes belonging to radio's tv's games etc that we no longer had. So each week on dustbin collection day I would go up there and bring down a couple of items of rubbish and add it to the bin. Its amazing how quickly the rubbish seems to disappear over the weeks! I think if you do it like this rather than trying to tackle the whole problem in one go it is much easier.0 -
thats rotten that the council charges you to collect extra rubbish - no wonder people dump stuff. i've lived in three seperate council areas in scotland now and each one has had this service. you phone to arrange collection might take a few days. what about big stuff like washing machines do you need to pay for these to be collected? married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-090

Thanks for this thread. Have been inspired to have a sort throught the wardrobe and airing cupboard and put together a charity bag. Will take it into town in a min while I'm still feeling motivated!
I think this is a good time to have a good old sort out as you are going to end up with loads of new stuff after xmas and may as well clear out old tat and 'just in case' stuff beforehand!
Am also going to sort through my son's toy boxes this afternoon and put the toys that he's outgrown up in the loft. I'm sure Santa will be buying him lots of new ones!
While I'm in the mood, I'm going to do the recycling and tidy the house up! Busy busy! ;D0 -

Why not take them to a car boot sale next summer? Okay it's a bit of time away, but you've got plenty of time to find other nicknacks around the house that you don't need/use. We've done two car boot sales with our tat this summer. Got in excess of £200 between the two days. Goodness knows why we bought some of the stuff in the first place, but I reckon another one will be needed in Summer 2005! ;DSealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
Try going into each room with 2 carrier or bin bags and put into 1 bag 10 things to throw away and into the other 10 things for charity. Keep this up as you go from room to room and repeat weekly if you can. This works for me as it becomes like a game (have to find those 10 items! ) ;D always do though! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Yep, it's something like £10 for up to five items or rubble sacks. Or £10 for a single itemif it's a fridge or freezer. And, yes, since they started charging (used to be free) more stuff is dumped.0 -
