  • another tip is to get 4 boxes label them charity shop/car boot, tip, keep, maybe.

keep - should only be very important stuff/sentimental

maybe - should be stuff you can't bear to be parted from (you should date this box and after a certain time say 6 months you've not needed it then chuck it)

carboot / charity shop - before you take it to the charity shop go to a car boot and make some money from your clutter- then take anything that doesn't sell to the charity shop

tip - any tat that you don't think would sell, broken or damaged stuff.

remember if you have loads of rubbish tour council will collect it for free if you call them.

clearing out will make you feel better and free up space to use eg use your spare room for family to stay as an office or a gym or to do that hobby you've always wanted to do.

getting a friend to help is a good idea and most of all be brave. sometimes clutter can be offputting as too big a job but do what others have said and do it in stages.

    good luck

another idea is sell your clutter on ebay!

Our council charge for collecting (other than normal household rubbish) unless you are on certain benefits.

so do ours, but lots of people dump it on the field at back of me, which is just lazy, and then council have to clean it up.

Timely thread for me, I work from home and get leaflets etc delivered to pass out to customers. The boxes tend to take over all the spare bits of the house, garage, under stairs and spare room...sometimes there are a few leaflets left when the product goes end of life.

I spent Saturday afternoon and Sunday sorting it all out including thinning out the wall to wall floor to ceiling bookcase, getting rid of the old telephone directories and holiday brochures from the 80's (LOL )

So I thought I would take the rubbish to the tip, our recycling service is abysmal, they come when they want:

I went to the paper recycling skip, it usually opens at the back but not this one, it has letterbox sized holes 2 feet above my head... then the attendant spotted that I had more than 2 leaflets with my company name on and said I couldn't put it in the skip because it's trade waste. I have to drive over 20 miles to another recycling centre and pay to get rid of these, super for the environment I don't think!!!
    ???

I will put a bit in the paper bin each week, no doubt they will catch up with me and throw me in jail very soon.

Anyway rant over.. back to clearing clutter, I love the feeling when it's all gone, I sold the contents of my loft last summer on a car boot, people buy the craziest things. I have thinned out my possessions and my wardrobe, it's great when you find stuff you forgot, it's like having a big shopping spree, I found some boots I forgot about at the back of my shoe cupboard, still in the box.

I understand the can't throw it away thing, I still have boxes of greetings cards in the loft, and we can't get a car in the garage for stuff LOL.

I plan to spend some time after Christmas clearing some of it....Good luck to all letting go of their treasures..
