My traditional village house in Spain has a downstairs kitchen (originally a stable!) and first floor living room (and remains of bread oven). I like it, it's easy to just shut the kitchen away from the rest of the house if you don't want to clear up straight away.
But what about the fact that the master bedroom was upstairs, while the other bedrooms were downstairs? It would make it pretty easy for your teens to sneak out while you're in bed. Or to sneak someone else in.
I wouldn't be a fan of upside-down houses for a lot of reasons. But I think the oast house was even less practical than if it was totally upside-down.0 -

I definitely recognise the blonde haired woman coming up next week, I think she has been on come dine with me?
Not sure. I thought it meant one of two things:
- renting it as short-term/holiday accommodation at £1500/week
- Beeny was fed up and just said it all wrongly and nobody else spotted it because the production team couldn't give a flying whatsit.0 -

While I don't go back and delete one, I have the power to say I could.
The minute I do so, I've lost the power.
I'm all for holding onto the power.... for now.0 -

Yes, take your point, but I still think it was preferable than the original design with the living room downstairs in the dark. You have to work with the space and there will have to be compromises - you and I would just compromise differently I think!
I loved the round kitchen and the fact that it was downstairs and the light airy living space.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I agree about the impracticality of the master bedroom being upstairs whilst the others were downstairs. My children are only 5 and 3, so the sneaking out or sneaking others in are (I hope) not my problem as yet. But the thought of trudging up and down stairs when they wake up in the night having had a nightmare/needing the toilet, doesn't bear thinking about!
However, it did seem to make sense aesthetically.
I also didn't get the £1500 per week comment at the end. Presumably a simple mistake?0 -

So when I heard the 1500 a month become 1500 a week - I thought we were back in those times again. I almost fell for it. Oh yeah, my numbed brain thought, yeah 1500 a week if course - that'll be better than 1500 a month. Hmm, take a toke on this big boy and lets rent it out for 1500 a day.
er, sorry. Went off on one.0 -

....You mean the big bright room.
I'm not having a go sdw, but........
What I hate about these shows (not that I watch them often) is the pretentious language used by these amateurs...............
the house becomes....................the "build"
a room becomes ................a living space
knocking down a wall becomes.................opening up the space
putting in a window becomes................flooding the space with light
checking the builders are not wasting time drinking tea becomes.............project management
talking to the builder becomes...........negotiating with the contractors
And so on.
It really gets on my t1ts.
Which is one reason I don't watch the sh1te."The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -
