skintchick - I'm not sure, but I can't imagine having PND would be an automatic denial of a homebirth. They wouldn't give you meds that are harmful to the baby. The point is to get help so that you're emotionally healthy - they're not going to take the baby away from you for asking for help.

Skinty, they will NOT take your baby away hun! You might feel better simply by telling someone how you are feeling, it must be adding further pressure onto you keeping it all bottled up.

I'd think it would be more beneficial for them to allow you a homebirth given how you are feeling. Plus, as Sami pointed out, they can't force you to go to hospital.

Keep in mind that being proactive and telling them that you need help will show them that you are a responsible mum in that you want what's best for your baby by making sure you are emotionally well. It can only be in your favour.

I can;t stop crying now! I have to go and get dressed and ready for the MW. I don;t know if I will mention it. I don;t like her that much so I'd rather talk to my GP.

On a positive note, Babyplanet have called back and said the Cosatto is going to be out of stock till July as the manufacturer isn;t delivering any!! BUT he offered me the showroom model for £130, and said it has one small scratch on the inside of a leg. Calling OH now to see what he thinks.

I'm too scared to tell her. WHat if they won;t let me have a homebirth? What if they make me take drugs that might harm the baby? I can;t tell her. Normally I would get help but I just am too scared in case they take the baby away. I was taken away for a few weeks when I was little and it ruined my relationship with my family even though I don;t have actual memories of it. I can;t do that to my baby.

The cot is the Cosatto Close To Me and the mattress I found that matches is £40 - the one from Boots is a different make and is £80!

I think £184 is the cheapest for that cot.

I feel like I was in your shoes 2 weeks ago, was sure they were going to take baby away as I could not cope with looking after myself let alone a new baby. Yes I have had to go back on meds but have now accepted that this is the treatment that works for me. I also have lots of support from midwives and mental health team, currently having 2 appointments per week to get me through. Yesterday was the day I came to terms with the fact that after the baby is born PND will more than likely kick in with a vengance. ( I have been hospitalized with depression, so I know the fear of ending up back in the unit unfit to look after my baby.) I am being reassured at every turn that because I have the support in place early this should not happen.
I am gutted that I will probably be on meds after a few weeks so will not be able to breast feed for very long, but it is more important for me to be at home with baby.

sorry that turned into a long post.:o

Awwww skinty :grouphug: try and have a shower and get ready for your appointment. I have suffered with depression and find when it is really bad i just try and take it hour at a time. And when you feel ready discuss it with your gp or whoever you feel most comfortable with.

Good news on the cot - heres hoping they can get something sorted for you

    ANOTHER new thread? :rotfl:

Somebody asked about the Healthy Start Vouchers & Aldi ... don't know. I've put my postcode into the search, and Aldi (who are pretty close) isn't listed, but then again neither is our Tescos so I suspect the list isn't uptodate!

Would be useful to know which "chains" take the vouchers at all their stores, I would agree.

Dashing in because it is almost 3pm and I haven't even had time for breakfast yet ... Skinty, I'm not a therapist but I work in a unit with people who have a variety of disorders including depression. If you need to talk feel free to PM me. I can at least explain the way pre-existing depression is treated during and after pregnancy - and in the meantime you should know that it's extremely unlikely that your baby would be taken from you, there's no reason you shouldn't have a home birth if it would make you more comfortable, and shock therapy's so unlikely that it's not even worth worrying about.
