ML, sure we don't share MILs? Sounds exactly like mine. Do i remember rightly and she is the one who will go pink overboard also?
Mine can be very helpful, but very black and white and her opinions are the only ones that count. Have to bite my tongue and just do what I/we want to do anyway.0 -
Ftizio - I thought you had to tell them how long you plan to have off but can change your mind by giving them 8 weeks notice whilst you are off.
I used a template letter from a government website and it said, 'I plan to return to work on 14th June 2010 when my SMP runs out, however should this change I will provide you with 8 weeks notice. I will take the 7 accured bank holidays from Monday 14th June meaning my actual return to work will be 23rd June 2010.'
WM - presents? Thats what grandparents are for
Maybe that is the case. I did advise them that I would take 9 months, but don't think I gave them an actual date of return. However I said I would give them notice if my plans changed. I just didn't think you had to make any definite plans, so do you think you could say you were taking 3 months, but give notice to change to 6 if you wanted to? And vice versa?0 -

I know, lol. But its my way of justifying to myself buying something i like rather than something i need. Instead of going and buying the cot bedding i was planning to get, i have bought a non essential item again..... Oh well got it now and it was half price.:rolleyes:0 -

That's the one! She got herself all het up that dresses were BANNED (where she got that idea from I don't know, typical drama out of nothing, all we asked was please don't go overboard on impractical frilly nonsense - she's a baby not a doll, but in a nicer way)
What really bugs me about her is that she's opinionated but not based on any actual knowledge or experience! Doesn't work, doesn;t have any real contact outside the family, but definitely knows what's what with the world
Fitzio - 6 months' full pay? That's fab! Are you in the civil service? I'm at 90% by week 5 and then half pay til 18. After that, it's SMP only. We don't have to give our ML dates before we leave - I think you just have to let them know 18 weeks ahead of time when you plan to go back (which isn't that far off my 6 months!)
Pink pig - we do - I'll get back the bank hols when I'm off and also the days the uni is closed. Not sure if that's standard thoughMFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!

Pinkpig - on this website it states that you should accrue contractual holidays, but that the law is not clear on bank holidays. It states that you could argue if bank holidays are accrued when someone is on sick leave, but that you wouldn't automatically be entitled to them. Not sure how up to date it is though - Glam might have some better info. I do accrue bank holidays, but as the benefits are so good in my work, I wasn't sure if it was just my work or everywhere.0

ML - yes, the organisation I work for transferred into the Civil Service last year, so I have kind of hit jackpot with that! Was previously employed under a Police contract, so decent benefits, but not quite this good!0

I need to find out about bank holidays as well as it effects when I take my annual leave - ie. if they don't accrue then I want to take annual leave to take advantage of the most bank holidays.

Most definately one and the same MIL.
Favourite sayings "I don't like it". "It' not for me" and "If it were my ....baby...etc and "If i were you i'd...."
If she was me she'd know what its like to do a days work, see to a five year old, a OH and fit in some cleaning and cooking and food shopping if poss. And not spend all day "Obsessively" cleaning and boredom shopping.0 -
Fitzio - must be these public sector jobs! I work for a non-gov'tl dept but we get identical benefits/pension/etc. to civil service. The pay may suck, but the benefits deffo make up the difference (great if you're a pregnant lady
)
Need to speak to HR though...don't suppose your knowledge of maternity benefits, Glam, extends to TUPE arrangements?!top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne
would like to win a holiday, please!!
