just had a quick message from MM dylans had to go to CPAP but he went 60% o2 to 30% so getting better :) it must be the vibes x

'Tis true - vibes work! ;):D

Searching, please let MM know I'm thinking of her, and that Rhys send degunking vibes to Dylan too :)

I'd never heard of CPAP before having Rhys. If anyone else hasn't heard of it either, info here :) Basically, it was explained to us as breathing is like blowing up a balloon (ie your lungs) from scratch each breath. Once you've blown a balloon up once and stretched it, then let the air out and blow it up again, it's easier to do. What CPAP does is blow constant pressure in to the lungs so that they never completely go down again and then it's easier for babies to blow them back up like the balloon on the second go.. Does that make sense? Basically it just helps them a bit so they don't have to put so much effort in and they don't get too tired so they can put their energies into getting better :)

Also, remember air is roughly 20% oxygen so Dylan is doing really well to only be on 30% - like a little extra again to give him more energy to get better quicker :)

Suzy - was your OH not well before?
MW said HiPG were being paid much quicker now - someone on here had it within a week!!

Helen - I only ate the Mars bar but I'm in work now so only have fruit. Banana, peach, 2 x plums, cherries, blueberries and grapes!
Find the link I posted yesterday, pretend to be your employer and put in some details like when you get paid, how much your last wages was etc and it breaks it down for each month of SMP and tells you how much you'll get. I get paid monthly (calendar month) so would be different to someone who gets weekly pay or 4 weekly pay.

I'm getting battered this morning as well - like a disco in there!! :rotfl:

I've only just told mine Helen as I didnt get my matb1 form until late on.

They tell you what you qualify for and you choose how you want your SMP to be paid, ie over so many weeks. I choose to do it over the longer period so i always have money coming in. Not sure if this can be done through every employer as im not up to speed with it all .HTH

Morning all and bumps.. i feel in a right dilema at the mo re work.. we have debt like everyone else to pay, and we've already decided I will go back to work in Feb because im only on the SMP, so ill be back 4 days a week with bub in nursery 2.5 days a week with mother and myself having it other two, but I'm wondering if I should just do the 5 days or if this is too much for me and baby. I'm not concerned about nursery my mother has worked here for 15 years, new premises and fantastic staff.. but this would mean our income increases by £400 approx a month take home but child care will then be £444 a month.. I feel terrible but the mortgage and bills have to be paid.. BTW this baby wasnt planned, so I havent planned to have this baby knowing we're in a bad money situation, but I cant help that now.. What is everyone else doing after baby is born re work? x

    easily done.

You've done really well with your mat leave fund, have you done that with putting money aside ?

I've not got anything prepared, plan to go back in April but not for long. Hope to go back pregnant again then stay off permentantly after that ones born.

Anyone can answer this then that would be great ....

Does anyone know "legally" whats the maximum number of weeks pregnant i could be to qualify for mat leave again next time - if you understand that ?? I think you have to be back in by say 15 weeks pregnant so that you can start mat leave then leave again at say 33 weeks .....I know what i mean but its putting it in writing . lol

nanc - our baby was planned, but that doesn't mean we are financially secure by any means!! I'm quite lucky in that I get full pay for 6 months of ML and then SMP for a further 3 months. So right now I'm probably going to take 9 months ML (going back to work next September-ish). Once I return, plan on working compressed hours at 4 days/wk (2 other ppl on my team already do this). OH gets a day off in lieu of Saturdays as part of his normal schedule, so our plan is to put baby in childcare (prolly childminder as they are the cheapest) for 3 days/wk while we both can still pull in full salaries.

So between end of summer & whenever my full-pay ML runs out, going to start saving the pennies to pay for SMP period and future childcare. Helpful in that my cash insurance plan gives a £600 birth grant, so this is going straigh into bank for ML fund!

Hope that helps a little bit? I realise my situation is a bit unique, but I think everyone handles the delicate balance b/t working enough to pay bills and not shelling out too much childcare really differently.

(TBH, for future children, I think 1 of us will have to become stay-at-home b/c the cost of 2 children in childcare is definitely more expensive than 1 salary will pay...)

eta (sorry!!): also, I'm not a British citizen so my eligibility for benefits is really different than anyone else on here...so prolly not a good example to use! :p

    Hi nancmat,

Its awful thinking about going back to work isnt it. Our babies aren't born yet and we stress about it. I'm having 9 months off, I'm having all my work and mat leave divided over the 9 months so we never run out of my money, We're lucky that my partner is on very good pay but it still doesnt make things easier when theirs bills to be paid. I wish we got more money for being off work . IMO Smp seems an unfair amount to live off

When i go back to work we are both looking after the baby , we are lucky that we can both work around that with work but we also dont have family to fall back on and dont want to go down the child care route just yet
