I'm working on my birth story, I've had about 3 goes at it and its only 1 paragraph so far - every time I sit to do it I get dragged away by one of my boys :)

one tip for the homebirth is a hard bed is a better choice than soft one if you need to lay down, that was one of the only 'problems' we had - it was a bit difficult for the MW when she was stitching me up
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.

I've just discovered ice poles :D Cold and yummy and won't give you a tummy :D

I have a fat face today and still feel pants, want to sleep more but got to feed the hungry masses.

BP is fine though so no point going up to the hospital to sit about and then go home (plus I'm too poorly to drive and it would mean getting DH to take me up who would wind me up and babysitters for the kids)

Oh !!!!!!! Turns out Rhys does have an underactive thyroid as well, inherited from yours truly! :( Not only is VP a 1 in 2500 chance; babies having UAT is a 1 in 4000! One in a million is my bubba! :o

Docs have spoken to specialists in Sheffield and we've both had specialist blood tests this afternoon. They asked if I knew WHY I had a UAT, which I don't - I was just told I do and given the medication to take - so the tests are to determine why I have it. May take a few weeks to come back but they're going to start treating Rhys tomorrow morning.

Am a bit annoyed because I've been telling them that I have it and it's in my/Rhys' notes. Am going to speak to the consultant tomorrow about it - he's nowhere to be seen at this time of day. The UAT is probably the main reason for him not putting on weight and could have had very serious consequences developmentally had it not been picked up. Could kick myself for never demanding that they give me a straight answer about whether or not he had it - I knew he was tested and assumed "no news is good news".. clearly not!

Well step 1, relax and be thankful that it has eventually been picked up and step 2, find someone who's !!!! you can kick. It is not up to you to chase medics about, they have had the training and they should be asking and picking up these things, so stop blaming yourself (if only it was that easy hey?).

He has quite a story forming doesn't he?

You couldn't make it up.. :o

Hurrah for the internet too as I've just read something about iron inhibiting the absorption of thyroxine and I know he had iron at 8am and will have thyroxine in the morning too. Am going to write a note for the next registrar to read his notes (there will be one around at 9pm ish) to make sure they change his iron (thyroxine has to be in the morning). Grrr.. not my job, but I need to know they are aware of the interaction too!

Grrr.. there was something else I'd just thought of to ask them to check but it's gone out my head again.. Think Lynsey, think! *sigh* :o

Sami - i'm probably going to give birth on the living room floor so that should be hard enough for any stitching!

I find it helps to look into conditions that DS2 has. Means that when they speak to you, you can answer back and show them your not thick, then they actually start talking to you rather than at you. Is he on sytron, the liquid iron, it's different from regular Iron. (sytron is sodium feredetate, iron tablets are usually ferrous sulphate)

Yeah, I've been on 75mg since 12 weeks. Was in the last pregnancy too.

Btw, you can take the dispersible ones in the normal way too (you know, chuck it down your throat). Saved me a fortune when the pharmacist told me that as I'd been buying the oral ones at nearly £3 for 36! The dispersible ones are 99p for 50 :D (now that is money saving).

Thanks for that tiamai - I did balk at the price difference and went for the dispersible ones!

But mixed with water they are really really yuck, so just swallow them, much better!
