No social worker.
We don't have an allocated social worker either, but DD is on the case load of the children with disabilities social work team anyway. We saw one when she was diagnosed, and have probably had face to face contact with one twice in the intervening 5 years  but if we need a referral or service which has to come from a social worker, then we have to phone the duty social worker on that team and they will in theory organise it. It's by no means a perfect system, but it is a good starting point at least.
Even though he's little, there might be something in the SEN code of practise too. Entitlements are different when SEN come into the question. Do you have any parents advice places locally who might be able to point you in the right direction? Or you could phone ACE's helpline for some advice on his entitlements if they cover Scotland too?0 -
Tara - I should have seen this coming. When we were newly pregnant she actually said to me that this would be like having her first grandchild because X 'doesn't count' because he is so autistic.
I should have realised then that the slightest inkling anything was wrong would result in her withdrawing.
The thing is, OH won;t confront her on it, I can't because it would hurt him, so she gets away with being like this when I feel she should be dealing with her attitude.
She was supposed to be knitting some blankets for the baby but I don;t think she is even doing that now so I will have to buy some. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

You know tara I was saying to OH last night, you would think I would be more relaxed this time, knowing what day I am going in and that there will be no labour to have to endure, but actually being able to count down the days and know when it is going to happen is bl00dy scary in itself !!!!!!!!!!!The two best things I have done with my life

Hi all..
Tia, I have nothing to add, but I hope everything goes well this afternoon.. No idea what I'm facing in the future, special needs wise for Rhys, but I'm boosted by your determination (thankyou too to tara and Nicki).
Rhys is doing fine.. Had a top doctor (well, "Professor" actually!) look at him this morning and he was telling the other docs off for not being bang up to date on Rhys' condition and treatment, and said thankyou to me for answering his questions whilst the others were frantically searching through the notes. I get the impression they're all scared of him! Nothing changing today, although he'll have another kidney scan tomorrow, then eye tests on Wed and be weighed again on Wed and poss get a dietician involved if he's gained no significant weight by then.
With the room move comes a different set of nurses, most of whom haven't looked after Rhys before. Can't say I was particularly enamoured with this morning's nurse - she seems to have a negative attitude in general. When the Prof asked how much noise Rhys was making, she just shrugged and said "not a lot", whereas my answer was "he grumbles and belts out a good cry when you change his bum and wake him up, but in general he's peaceful" - he shouldn't be roaring all the time, he's supposed to sleep but it's understandable and normal that he should cry out if you disturb him, so he is doing what he should but if the Prof had listened to the nurse he could well have got the idea something was more wrong with him than there is. Thankfully, this was all in the chat before the examination and as soon as the Prof took his blanket off and unpoppered his babygro he started grumbling and getting grisly, just like I said he would! Felt like sticking my tongue out at the nurse!
This afternoon's nurse is lovely. Another new one to Rhys but we've obviously seen her around. She's really young and OH thinks she looks like she should be working in Maccy's rather than with wee dinky babies, but she seems really good so far - kind of eager to please and so happy to get to look after babies all day, bless her!
Anyway, that was a bit of a ramble.. I've had lunch. Now trying to down as much water as possible cos I'm having milk supply issues again - really need to focus on it this week to try to build up a stock in the freezer here so we can go home next weekend. Was talking to OH last night and he's as desperate to go home now as I am. We just need that normality and to be able to cook decent meals and to chill out more.. Rhys will be here for a good few weeks yet and we have to make the move sometime - just want to make sure he's settled in the long-term stable room then I think we'll make the move
Hope everyone's okay - especially Beenie! xx0 -

Elle, your getting a taste of what it can be like trying to chase 'professionals' and get answers. You learn how to read between the lines because they do not give you straight answers unless you ask them directly.
Learning curve aint it?
But he sounds like he is doing so well! So some *Podgy Rhys Vibes* heading his way!!!0 -

It's Enterprise Rent-a-car, so £81.90 is 2 days loss of use (like it wouldn't be sitting there anyway) and £45 is admin. That still means the repair cost £344.07. uh-huh, and my !!! fits a size 6 evening gown.....0 -
elle, sounds like he is doing really well !!! Go on Rhys, just gain a little weight now and mummy will be happier
