I think I'm going to try driving next weekend. Anyone who's had a c-section before.. how long before you drove again?

Poor rhys i think i would have a strop on too keep being messed with bless him.

i was a good girl and didn't drive until after the recomended 6 weeks after c/s but then i was quite ill with an infection so it didn't bother me. It was prob more nearer 8 weeks. I tell you with walking every where and breast feeding the weight really dropped off quick but shame we both got ill and had to take a cocktail of tablets so i had to stop feeding him and the weight piled back on again and i never did shift it. i am the same weight now as i was while carrying ds which i am not proud of.

Dreading it tomorrow really as sure they will moan at my over hang as they have put it to me before. I will have to prep the area :o they always pull my troussers down further than i am sure is needed. Baby isn't growing in my foof! :rotfl:

Oh I meant to say with the driving, I have been told by loads of people that 4 weeks you feel fine to drive, so I phoned my insurers to ask them and they will not cover me before the 6 weeks are up !! So even if you feel fine, check you are insured !!

Oh dear, I've had a bit of a bad time day today, and think I've made a wuss of myself...

I had my booking in appointment with the midwives at the hospital. This is a new thing, and I didn't have to do it with either of the other two, as I'm consultant led care. It didn't bother me at all in advance, but when I got to the hospital they sent me up to the booking in office which was on the obstetric ward where I was after I had DD, and haven't obviously been back there since.

When I got there, all I could smell were lilies, and a woman was brought through on a bed with a newborn crying (probably just had a csection and being brought back from theatre). This brought memories of DD's birth flooding back, which had been a very traumatic ventouse delivery and I was very ill afterwards, and she was later found to have severe learning difficulties. I must have been looking very stressed and out of it, as a lovely midwife came over and brought me a glass of water, and asked if I wanted to talk about why I was looking so upset. Then I went in to see the midwife doing the booking in, and was so out of it that I couldn't even remember when my kids had been born - said 1990 and 1991 instead of 2000 and 2001 more than once, and got upset when trying to describe the complications after DD's birth, as I still don't really know exactly what happened and why. Ended up being sick in the loo on the way out!

My next antenatal appointment with the consultant is tomorrow afternoon (in the same hospital but a different part) and the midwife suggested I should speak to him about what happened last time (it's the same doctor), but to be honest I am really concerned I'll get very upset and end up making a huge scene. I did have a major nervous breakdown after DD, and I've never really addressed what happened around her birth, and as I have been well mentally for many years now, don't really want to go backwards on that front at this point. On the other hand, obviously at 23 weeks there is only way out for this baby, and I can't really afford to have another reaction like today whilst actually giving birth. Really not sure what to do.

Nicki - is a home birth an option? Or a midwifery-led unit? sorry, I can;t remember why you are under consultant care so it may be that it has to be hospital.

I do think you should talk to someone about it, and perhaps have someone go with you as an advocate who can talk for you if you get too upset?

No, my first birth was a c section, and I was seriously ill after the second, so I wouldn't be considered for either. My OH comes with me to all my ante-natal appointments but I'd rather not let him see me get in a state either, as he worries a lot about me after the breakdown, even though that was a long time ago now.

I know a C-section doesn;t reclude a HB, but you'd have to fight and if you're not really keen then it would be a lot of effort.

Do you have a friend that could go with you? What about hiring a doula? It does sound like you need some help with sorting your head out, and it would be awful to go in to give birth and break down. You have time to get some help - could your GP refer you for counselling?
