Well, thought I'd best post this!!!
Due date of 19th May - I already posted that I was in bed at about 11pm and bubs was moving down and making me v uncomfy. Then I felt a popping sensation - most weird and mentioned it to OH. About 10 mins later I felt damp and like I needed the loo so waddled with my legs firmly closed and sat on the loo - my PJ trousers were slightly damp - and it didn't smell of wee (tmi?!). Had a wee, took trousers off and put a pad and knickers on and went back to bed, saying to OH that the pop may have been waters breaking (they broke with DD but that was a stand up and they went whoos - a bucketful on the floor - totally different) Led in bed and had a few pains and they went and wemt to sleep. Woke up 2.30ish with a couple more bad BH/ period pains and went for another wee - where I checked teh pad and it was pinkish in colour. Slept again and woke up 6ish (maybe - can't remember)
MAde OH work from home, just in case - had a few tightening pains in morning and decided to call delivery suite at lunchtime as nothing was happening and I know they don't like you to go too long after waters break (still only a slight pinkish discharge on pad) They said to go in asap, so we went in about 2 (had to feed toddler and then get mother in law round. Plus I went for a shower, shaved legs and dried my hair so it would be nice if I had to stay in!! Oh - and had to throw going home outfit in bag)
Got to hosp, they looked at pad (they have such a nice job!!) and thought waters may have broken. Put me on a monitor and gave me an internal to check (with a speculum, so very like a smear) and a swab to check for any infections as waters had gone 12hours+. No real tightenings showing on monitor, but baby ok and they thought waters had gone so said I was to go home and phone next day (21st) at 7.30 for a time to come in for induction - probably lunchtime or so, as there were 3 others ahead of me in teh queue for inductions - providing I didn't start naturally in teh meantime.
Went home etc etc. Went to bed - still nothing and even waers had stopped trickling. Phoned at 7.30 next day and they said to go straight in (everyone else must have started naturally in the night!!), so I said I'd be in after taking kids to school. Went for a shower. Got m-i-l back, wrote a list of things for her to do with toddler (had tumble tots and playgroup) and pick up times for school. Dropped big ones at school and went to hosp - arriving about 9.
Saw same midwife as previous day - lovely lady. Said waters had stopped so she said she'd need to do another internal and check. Was referred to consultant on call because of my prvious c/s. He was too busy to come and said to start me on pessary (Oxytocin) (not usual for c/s - so m/w went to see him) Was decided that I'd need an internal to check if waters had gone/ any dilation started. Then possibly a scan to check fluid levels and if tehy were ok and no dilation I could go home (bah!) Anyway, had a bedwash (yum - not!), an internal and m/w thought waters had gone so we were going for the drip (Syntocinon) - fast & furious.
Drip inserted at 10am. Few tightenings but I managed to finish my book, so not too bad. Was led on bed strapped to monitor (would have been anyway cos of c/s but syntocinon can cause bad reactions in some babies, so had no real choice). M/w checked me at 11am - had dilated less than a cm in that time but cervix had started to effece (thin). Labour was deemed to have strated from then - pains still ok and could breathe through and read. Midwife upped the dose of the drip (had also done that at 10.30)
Dose upped again at 11.30 as pains still not too bad. Once more at 12, when I got off teh bed and sat at teh end holding onto the bars on a birthing ball. STayed there for about 1/2 hour - didn't like it. Got back on bed about 12.30 and had gas and air - MUCH better!! Contractions started to get hard and I was rolling around and grunting my way through them - so midwife was trying to get me to relax through them (!!!!!!??) - I was pushing down with my feet and arching my back (had desire to push but thought it far too early) - after about 10 mins I said if I couldn't push with my feet I wanted to push - so she said 'oh - you might be ready' - and called for a delivery trolley - one was pushed in the rooma nd I started pushing - saying I was going to poo myself (rectocele makes it almost impoossible to give birth lying flat on your back without pooing yourslf:o) . Midwife was trying to get her gloves on and hold baby's head in - I was having none of that and he came out in about 2 or 3 pushes in total at 1.24 - so labour was 2hours 29mins, according to my notes.(head was already at entrance/ exit before I oushed) - he stang a little bit - I could feel a tear, but I just wanted him out (very primeval urge - how people pant through contractions I'll never know!). Was delivered straight onto me (well, the tshirt I was wearing). Apparently I had a very long cord. Got to look at the placenta and membranes (not seen them before) and we were left to our own devices.
Went for a bath after about 45mins or so, when he'd had a feed. Got dressed (in pre preg clothes) and m/w said I could go about 5pm. Was weighed at about an hour and a bit in age - when we discovered just how diddy he was at 5lb 13.5oz!!
OH went home to get car seat (hadn't taken it in with us!!!) and tell kids. Came back about 4.30 with DD in tow - one very excited young lady who had lots of pics taken with her having a cuddle with new baby bro! Left hosp with paperwork and were home for just after 5
My mum arrived shortly after - it was her birthday. Brought a load of early baby clothes with her as newborn stuff is massive on him!!
Took big kids to school the next morning - lots of teachers came out to see bubs
Went out to lunch on the Fri (22nd) and to new shopping outlet centre - had people looking in pram and asking how old he was - and looking shocked when I replied '23 hours'!! Bought myself some new clothes as had none that fitted except 2 pairs trousers - all too big!!
Afterpains were horrendous for about 5 days - but that's cos he was number 4. Milk came in after about 2.5days. B/f going ok. Lost weight initially but nearly back at birth weight by day 14 (5lb 12.5oz). Was jaundiced for more than 10 days, hence why I had a day 14 visit from midwife, as they thought he might need tests - but ok now. Am on weekly visits from HV though, due to previous PND and ongoing 'issues' with OH (thankfully had nice HV from the team assigned to me - she expected just to pop in last week for about 15 mins max and was here over an hour with me in tears!!)
He is very sweet - could sleep more (couldn' t they all!) and I would prefer him to be a bit bigger!!!
OH - forgot - was phoned on day 6 by GPs surgery - they had results of my swab - I had an infection (they thought I was still pg) - Group B strep!! Was prescribed antib's. Got straight on phone to midwifes as nurse at surgery couldn't tell me if there would be an issue with Sam. Lovely m/w said it was unlikely as it was day 6 and he was showing no symptoms (although they can get late onset strep infection similar to meningitis!!) Had me very worried.
Anyway, better late than never with a birth story! Will post some pics of Sam later - need to feed toddler lunch now!!

Greent - can you also post your BS on BS thread? I'm saving them to read nearer the time!
Jillie - shouldn't that be 25 week check?!!!! My bump changes from hard to soft in different places, I find sometimes I get these lumps on the left and right - think that's when bubs is lying sideways
Mine is very active when I'm relaxing watching the Tv in the evening and when I lie down in bed, then wakes up again around 5am!!!
This morning OH had his arms across my tummy and baby was trying to kick it off - problem was OH was flat out so didn't feel it!!!
I'm still debating when to start ML leave - need to get my letter to them by Friday
I should have 14 days holiday left so not sure whether to start ML on 13th Sept (38 + 5) and take 9 days leave before that (leaving me with 5 to tag onto ML) OR start ML on 20th Sept and take the 14 days before that. Either way I will finish on 28th August. Or just try and work up to 13th Sept and save the 14 days leave until after ML.A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
Where does the time go? :think:0 -
Glam
It is currently my intention to work up until Friday 18th and save all my Annual Leave to take after ML. You mention 20th Sept, do you work sundays or is there a financial or leave reason why you would start ML on a sunday? Obviously I also have to get my letter in by Friday so need to work this out before then.
Bump seems small today, looked small last week when she was head down but not hurting so much now so think she has moved. Hips are giving me serious grief though, having day off work as I don't think I could have made it out to the car nevermind across the car park and into the office. It feels like the socket and ball joint are misaligned and every movement feels like it is scraping. I've had a fairly restful weekend so does this sound pg related or have I done something stupid to myself?
Any advice gratefully received

Thanks to all who directed me to Quidco - £289.30 since Nov 09 :beer:0 -
Bump much lower and I feel much more mobile and less whale-a-licious. As I'm still only 32+4 I am taking this as a bad sign. I'm also having the sort of bathroom issues that would put you all off your lunch.
On the plus side, I'm able to get out of my chair unaided today. I needed to be levered out with an oar yesterday.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

harley - I know that some works require you to come back to work before taking any annual leave...I plan on taking mine at the very beginning of ML to avoid that! So take teh 3 weeks before birth (or whatever) as AL and then have ML start after that?top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne

Hi again all..
Congrats SM!!Can't wait for details and piccies!
Tara, Dorothy Perkins used to do a Snoopy tshirt with "Still Waiting" on it.
Rhys has been using my bosom for a pillow this morning - finally got to do skin-to-skin (he's now 22 days old!)Slept soundly on my chest for about 30mins with just the little oxygen tube on (only off support machine whilst out of inci). Got very grouchy when he had to go back in and have the hat and mask back on
He's coughing up horrible snotty mucus so has to have a chest xray today and may be back on antibiotics by this afternoon in case he's got an infection. Got to have the usual weekly head scan tomorrow and tests on his eyes on Wednesday. Apparently the tests are very uncomfortable - eyes held open, drops put in, then lights shone in - so I'm going to make sure I'm there to hold his hand. The other baby Rhys shares a room with has had it done so I'm going to ask his mum about it later.
Will go check on him in a minute then I'm going home with Mum for a few hours to sort more of the kitchen. Just had hospital lunch - fisherman's pie and peas. Nice enough but very salty - no idea how that can be passed off as a healthy option!
OH is still at work at the minute but before he left this morning he did suggest he might come home at 2pm..Think I might have worried him this morning cos I didn't answer his txts for about four hours. Was just in Rhys' room, nothing wrong, just getting caught up in looking after him. Have done nappy changes and feeds this morning, plus mopped up sick.. Ain't being a mum great?!
Righty, going to get sorted for going out.. TTFN xx0 -
Congrats SM!! You queue jumper lol.
Been to AquaNatal class this morning and the teacher did lots of bouncing moves to try and help me along. DH was convinced baby was going to come on the weekend and is disappointed he had to go to work this morning.0 -
