Well, if you ask for opinions you're gonna get them. I can still see both sides on this one, and would still make a complaint. Put it in writing, and also put a claim in for the cleaning or replacement of the clothes. Had to do this in JS one day when a bottle of bleach fell off counter and splashed up my jeans.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Damaged jeans are a little different to a smashed knee.
It's not simply a question of cleaning clothes."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
how lucky that she tripped over the basket when, if they had not bothered to put the basket over the sauce she could have caused severe injury on the glass0

She slipped in the sauce. She did not trip over the basket. I have actually explained throughout this thread...0 -
Hi ChelseaGirl
I was playing devils advocate just putting a different spin on it.
I would write to the store see what they say. If you bring it to their attention maybe it will stop the same happening to another person.
Hope your mum is alright.0 -

I was thinking that was why she placed the basket there? As a visible warning until someone could come along with the proper signs and equipment to clean it up with.
I think you need to complain, if for no other reason than to get it off your chest. I can see you are angry and upset about it and I guess you'd feel better if you had some sort of acknowledgement.
I would take some time to think about the response you may get though, and what outcome you would like. Hopefully they will send you some vouchers or something but I'd have said they'd be unlikely to admit liability or apologise as such - will that make you feel even worse?
carolt - FYI:
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.[2]
A troll is not someone who disagrees with the OP!!0 -
Damaged jeans are a little different to a smashed knee.
It's not simply a question of cleaning clothes.
The hospital have said that the knee is badly bruised not smashed
OP,I would have your mum (rather than yourself) write to Tesco and express her dissatisfaction at how they handled the situation. If she is not happy then of course she should make Tesco aware and give them a chance to remedy the situation.:starmod:C'est la vie:starmod:0 -
I worked in a supermarket all through college and if I found a spill and put a basket over it and went away, even to find a cleaner, I would have been giving a written warning. If someone had fallen in it I would have been fired.
The supermarket has a duty of care toward it's customers and the staff members represent the supermarket, it's their job. If a staff member comes across a spillage they have to stand by it and warn customers until it is cleaned.0 -
OP i'm sorry your Mum has been hurt & hope she's now feeling abit better, she must have been quite shaken also.
I agree with the above poster, I worked for Asda & if we saw a spillage we had to wait by it while a yellow sign & cleaners were summoned. Many a time i'd have been the only one by it but hey, it's not the middle of a desert it's Asda (Insert supermarket name) & i'm sure very soon someone would walk by, even a customer.
I've been known to say to another Customer 'Excuse me, would you mind getting the attention of the girl just there on the checkout, I don;t think she can hear me & need to remain here' & also staff are constantly walking by! If there was nobody we'd just nip to the end of the aisle where we could clearly see it & make sure nobody approached & call a colleague etc
It shouldn't have been left, the colleague made a mistake & it's not the fault of the OP or his/her Mum. They are hardly going to see their Mum heading straight for it & let her are they?
The store do need to at least take on board the comments/complaint, see why it happened & wasn't covered correctly & maybe go through the training with the colleagues to ensure they know what's what & apologise, also i'd expect them to pay for cleaning & update records.0
