If you think your deal is good, you will LOVE this one!

Go to small business section and search for e-value code 305 - D1281

reduce warranty to 1Y CAR (Collect and Return)
    Add the floppy drive
    choose the 48x/32x/48x CD-RW drive
no speakers (they are not very good)
choose the Dell E153FP 15" Value Flat Panel Monitor

use code ?7NWS3?Q45F?M0 for 5% off

    Total price £547.61

or choose the 19" TFT monitor instead for £690.49

and for just £11.75 more you can have the faster 533mhz RAM too!

A DVD recorder will only cost you £30 - £40 so you could add that yourself afterwards (saves you £80+VAT not taking it from Dell!)

Not a bad deal, only £458.31 inc VAT & Del with minimum options chosen.
  • I think I'd be worried about static electricity frying my expensive CPU chip as I slot it into the casing, or what happens if I put my PC together and have conflicts - who do I turn to for help?

I'd still rather buy it at a slightly higher price ready-made, and shop around for the best deal (or come here to hear about the best deals, that's even easier!) ;)
Thanks to all who post constructively.

  • I reckon its possible to self-build an equivalent system at the Dell price. Just less hassle to have it done for you  of course :)

I have just bought a Dell Dimension 2400. On the back is a label that says 'Made in China'. That is how they do it for the price.
  • The price is now so much cheaper than a year or two ago
  • The reason that there prices have fallen so much is that they are now using cheeper parts, infact the PC are basicaly Dell Badges Acers as they have cheep Acer parts in, Not a problem as long as your not buying because it's a DELL, as it's not anymore it's an ACER..

  • OK OK I missed a '1' off and it threw the figures. :P To be fair, the cost of a legit OS is also something that shouldn't be ignored, but you got my point. :)

Don't start me on the price things used to be Steve, I can still remember skinning my wallet for well over 100 quid just to buy a 64mb EDO once upon a time, oh those were the days.. ::)

Tell me about it AftermatH - less than a decade ago I spent £3k building my first PC and that was a Pentium 90 (albeit exceedingly fast in its day). Back then it was £30 per MB for memory, and I'm sure there are others who can go further back in time and remember even more laughable specs and prices.

At least I learned my lesson from that initial outlay - seeing how technology is moving on I realise that even the movie quality games which are now increasingly commonplace will be able to run on most basic PCs before too much longer! ;D

aw i thought youd latched onto a bargain!

i do agree that building a pc even if its slightly more is better...if you have the time....i dont at the mo....too busy ebaying, amazoning, private selling, looking after preggy wife and sick child, taken Voluntary redudancy so sorting out shares/life assurance etc, looking for a new job...oh yes nearly forgot Christmas as well.....i have a nose bleed!

So for me I will just buy one from Dell and accept that i wont be able to upgrade it much....well. i may if poss rip out the mboard at some stage....

Actually the Dell offer is even better as you can upgrade from the free crappy but ok printer to a reasonable all one printer for 11.25....hmmm tough decision! ::)

just get some syringes for new ink!

    Have a Merry Christmas everyone!!!
