washing bedding - how often?

Hello Ladies,
The question is above- how often do you change your bed linens (pillow covers, blankets, etc..) I usually do it once a week, but my mother in law living with us now and requests it to be changed every 2-3 days. I think she is being unreasonable, but she says I am living "unhygienic". Is that so?0 -
Blimey every 2-3 days no chance! Does she think you are a hotel or something?
Unless someone has a medical condition (or indulges in lots of messy bedroom activity ) then that's way over the top in my opinion.
Bottom sheets and pillowcases get washed every week, duvet covers I try to do once a fortnight unless they look really bad from fake tan or something.
Tell her she's being environmentally un-friendly by creating loads of extra laundry, think of the increased water and electricity usage if we all changed sheets every 2 days :rotfl:0 -
once a week, but if I'm very busy or its raining a lot and I cant get things dry then I leave it longer.Amalis, your MiL reminds me of my late mothers unmarried brother. HE used to wear a clean shirt each day and sometimes change after dinner to go out too. My mum used to do his laundry as well as her own families. His amount of shirts got ridiculas. So, if they didnt smell too sweaty and wernt stained she stopped washing them and just ran the iron over them then returned them ! He never noticed.0

I change mine weekly and I think that is fine. If I wasn't working full time and then some I would perhaps change them more often however I'm picky about them being perfectly ironed before they go back on the bed so from a time point of view weekly is manageable.
Everyone has differing opinions though - my husband came from a home where each bed had a set of winter bedlinen and a summer set (flannelette sheets v's nylon ones) and unless someone was ill his mother only washed them when they were changed for the season:eek::eek: I think that, and a few of her other habits, are what has resulted in hubby being extremely clean.0 -
Every 2-3 days omg:eek: it's not a hotel she's staying in lol. I normally change ours and DS2's bedding weekly, but occasionally do leave it 2 weeks. DS1's bedding (teenager) I try to make sure his is done weekly.0

Oh and my husband supports her because "she is older and she knows better" how things should be done. What can I say without creating a conflict?0

Monthly
.
I do live without a bedmate so none of the usual bodily fluids associated with coupledom...
But if it looks dirty sooner I wash it I suppose. No set roujtine is more what I'm getting at?0 -
Usually weekly, sometimes fortnightly. Think that's fine although sometimes I'll admit it's been longer!
Even in a hotel I wouldn't expect them to be changed every couple of days.0 -
Oh and I sleep in underwear and a nightie which gets chucked in the wash every morning!!
Phew, feeling a little less sluttish having remembered the above bit0 -
Ask OH if she changed his sheets every 2/3 days when he lived at home I bet she didn't , now someone else is doing it of course its different... I change sheets and pillowcases weekly and duvet cover fortnightly unless its been really hot at night then I might change the sheets and pillowcases twice in one week...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
