Weekly, but there's only me, so probably a lot easier.

  • Why do you have your winter duvet washed both before and after you pack it away?

Its washed to go into a cupboard because it whould have been used for 2/3 months after the December wash. Then it is washed to put on the bed in September because I dont like the thought of it being in a cupboard for 6+ months and I want it fresh for my bed :D

I alternate between ours and DD's bedding every week, so fortnightly. In hot weather, sometimes more frequently or when necessary. Baby's gets done every couple of days or so because of milky dribbles etc ;)

Me too - except the baby. But in summer it is largely dependant on the weather forecast as I do not have a tumble drier........:mad:

Generally it is weekly but this can be moved forwards or backwards depending on other washing requirements, season and temperature and number of times BF stays during the week or weekend.

I have a flat but no outside space so have to plan my washing quite carefully to ensure I have clean (and dry) clothes, towels and bedding.

Just thought of something else to add - related to this discussion. Maybe everybody else already does it, but just in case:

When I wash and dry sheets, I put the whole set inside one of the pillowcases for that set. Then when it's time to put fresh sheets on the bed, the whole set is in the pillowcase, folded and easy to grab.

I love that idea....it had never occurred to me before!

An organised airing cupboard! (That's where all my clean bedding gets stored).

    Thank you :T
  • Some of you put me to shame!! I don't mind washing bedding but I like it ironed and it is that which takes the time!! Also the pillowcases get trapped in the duvet cover unless I pop it all up first. And then I have to get inside the wet cover to retrieve the pillowcases. I do wash them though!!! Also I really have to wash the actual pillows a lot. Someone told me that half their weight is dead skin cells............

I wash our bedding (which consists of bottom sheet, duvet cover and four pillowcases) everyweek!
Exactly the same here. Gets changed on a Saturday, when Mr LW is around to help fight with the duvet.

I'd probably leave it longer if we wore nightclothes, though.

As for ironing it..... life's too short!:D

Once a fortnight usually but as I hate drying sheets in a tumble drier, they will stay on the bed longer until a suitable outdoor drying day occurs. We normally fold back our bed every morning to air it and this also helps to rid of some of the overnight sweaty odours if it's been particularly hot.
  • Every week, on Thursday. I do ours and DD and DS do their own beds unless I really need to fill up the washer.

Had new pillows 2 years ago but I hear what you're saying about dead skin cells. Have just washed DD and DS's duvets and hung them on the line so I might bung some pillows in tomorrow. Our duvets only get washed once a year, I'm afraid. Before we moved, I had layers of blankets. It was a pig to make the bed but I knew for sure, when I got the next blanket out in the winter, that it had been washed when it came off in the spring.

Lastly, I keep our bedding in sets by folding everything for that bed into a pile with the duvet cover on the bottom. Then I fold the whole thing in half once and put it away

    Phew! I need a cuppa
  • i was watching 'how clean is your house?' yesterday (a guilty pleasure of mine)
    and Kim Woodburn said to the couple who's house they were cleaning;

'oooh lovvey you should change your sheets at least once a week you dirty beggar'

I was horrified, i too must also be a 'dirty beggar' lol i do mine once a month, (looks ashamed) Is that bad? Am I the smelly kid in class?!

    What does everyone else do?
It only takes a second to say 'Thanks, you just saved me a few quid!'
