My car at the moment is 13 years old and has done about 235K miles and does about 15/17 miles to the gallon when going back and forth to work. Insurance is about £250 a year, Tax £185, MOT £50 (plus normally a couple of hundred quid). The ABS, Steering Rack, Front tyres, the front suspension coils are all broken.
How much will this cost to replace on my BMW?
However Aygo is £35 Tax, group 1 insurance, 3 year warrenty and servicing. 3 year old ones still are fetching £5800 secondhand.
I would say I am being very MSE.
Well done Broon for one good policy.
Also not forgeting all the loverly people that will keep in employment for it as well.:T

Was that caused by your gravel drive?pickles110564 wrote: »The ABS, Steering Rack, Front tyres, the front suspension coils are all broken.0 -
I've always been meaning to buy a (nearly new) car this summer (my retirement year and therefore most likely to be my last car). I've got a 13-year old rust bucket (Micra) which is costing a fortune in MOT's, and the garage is finding difficulty in getting the spare parts anyway. No part-ex value and £120 per annum road tax.
So, I've just ordered a Toyota Yaris - list price £9600+ which I'm getting for £6549 (via online broker, and then taking that quote to my local dealer who matched it).
It will be brand new so I'll get the extra MOT free years, and extra warranty years. I can enjoy being the only driver, and £35 road tax.
So the scrappage scheme is perfect for me because I'm getting a newer car which I will keep for the next 10-15 years. Mazel tov! Suits me!0 -
Some people prefer to keep their '!!!!' inside their pants, much better than having it removed and stuck onto the front of you car. Less painful too.
Now that's where you and I differ mate, I like my nob out and proud where everyone can see it on the front of me motor:T
At least then you know what yr getting;)0 -
I had a new car for 6 weeks very recently, thanks to a daft teen who used us to stop her Peugeot while she was texting, or doing something other than looking in front of her. It was great thrashing this sporty little number around at someone else's expense. (The car was good too!)
Eventually, however I got my old Nissan back. She's 10 in July and owes me nothing. 35k miles since I purchased and only a bit of hose replaced out of the service schedule. Not terribly sporty, maybe, but things like lumbar support are more important at my age, as is the way I can take her down those awful country lanes my sat-nag finds, with the grass growing up the middle and cow turds everywhere. Wouldn't do that with the newie.
So will I be 'scrappaging' my trusty Nissan when she turns ten in a couple of months.? After all, I could get one like the hire firm lent me for a mere £9k or so..........Yes, only £9k for something as reliable as only a new car can be......Yeah, right!:rotfl:
Oh, and what would happen to my trusty Nissan? She'd be... er... 'recycled' I suppose, even though she might have another 20-30k in her, relatively trouble free. Very green that is, oh yes!*
* Apologies if you're from Sunderland. I know you need the work, but I've never had a new car in my life and I'm guessing that most folk like me, who drive ten year old cars don't usually buy new either.0 -
Am I right in thinking the govt stumps up 1k and the dealer does too? So the dealer will give you 1k off anyway, even if you don't have a car to trade?0
